If anyone has any broken hard drives 7200RPM I want to take them off your hands!

I am doing a project to make 7200RPM silent fans and need hard drive motors because they are fast and quiet!

If you have any, please give um' to me! Big Ups

Feel free to take the HDD platter out and do what you will with it cus I do not want ur dataz just the motor! Tell Me

Fans get quieter the slower they run. Considering stock fans run around 1500RPM I see little potential for a 7500RPM fan, aside from a screamer.

Oh, and fans are lighter than HDD platters, your 7500RPM HDD motor will spin a fan much quicker.

I'd recommend going to a local PC repair place, they'll probably have some 500MB drives they don't want.

Actually an important sound factor is size. The bigger the fan the less noise can be true(the larger size means more weight and thus harder to vibrate) Anyway anything at 7200 RPM is gonna be loud as hell unless you stabilize the fan and isolate it completely.

Everyone here is right. It will be very noisy, not quiet like you're hoping. The noise from a fan is mostly from the air they push, not the fan themselves. This is why larger fans are quieter. They can spin slower than smaller fans and still move just as much air. A spinning HDD platter doesn't move air (it's actually "almost" air tight in there), so it's relatively quiet. A fan spinning at that 7200 RPM, on the other hand, will sound like a jet.
