Massive waste of money. XP can run ALL the so called *Vista only* Games...Micro$oft just made a installation check...Both games are based off DX9...So many security exploits...naa I'll wait.

Had it on one pc, totally useless and very annoying. I love xp and I don't think i'll get it until it is completely fixed or you actually need it. XP > Vista for now.

I just got a new lappy with Vista, and so far, there isn't much I've done that I couldn't do on XP, however I don't find Vista to be any worse either.
My one complaint is that Vista has dropped to the level of all those computer tards out there who barely know how to turn it on. They've reorganized stuff so that it looks neater to PC newbs, but I prefer the XP organizaion system- just straightforward folders and files.

It seems to get pissy when you network via wires.
It has few options for wired connections to both the internet and other networks...
Then it's system of "Virtual" folders piss me off because some share the name with real folders. Fancy series of shortcuts that are entirely oversimplified for jackasses.
It seems like they've dumbed down too much. Not alot is different on the performance end from XP. Besides the obvious memory drains and new graphics...

I have a Sempron64 3400+ with 1.5GB of RAM, 80GB of HDD and a GeForce 7600GT - more than capable of running it, no?
I tried installing it on a spare partition last month, but the nVidia driver was crap (hung every startup and had glitchy window borders), the UAC annoyed the hell out of me until I found out how to switch it off, the Virtual Folders did my head in, lots of my programs didn't work (at that time, iTunes support was rubbish, although I'm told it's better now), and all of my games ran a lot slower than they did in XP.
(Example: BF2142 with everything on full gets about 45-55fps in XP, 25-35 in Vista.)
These things are probably fixable, but I really don't see the point when XP works fine most of the time. So Vista remains sitting on my shelf.
And yes, OSX is better. *runs away*

You can turn off all of the prettiness, revert the start menu back to classic and change the folder views back too. My other install of Vista looks a lot like XP.

Again, you can turn all of this off. Virtual folders aren't an issue - its just the same in UNIX.

I have wired connections and all is fine. The new network view seems a bit pointless however if you go into Network Connections the old options are there.
Again, I use the UNIX argument here- Ive used symbolic links for a long long time and it's just a different way of thinking that's all.
I installed Vista when it first came out (Ultimate edition) - this did seem to make a larger demand on my graphics card (an ATI 9800XT). I have just installed the Business Edition and all is well - even with all of the prettiness turned on.
In general I'm happy with Vista (I wasnt when it first came out). Im getting better transfer speeds across the net (I have no idea how that has happened) and so far everything is stable. The drivers for my hardware seem to have made everything a bit more responsive and I even get better frame rates in ren.

Why is everyone defending that it ain't worse than XP? Why would I change then, if XP can do what Vista can do and I already paid for XP?
Most companies run with lower end machines simply cause they don't need high end ones. They won't get Vista if this means they need to upgrade to hardware that's superior to their needs...

im prob not going to get vista untill microsoft stops supporting xp, which i heard will be the case in 4 years or something like that. or i might get vista when it goes down to 150$ mark since like goztow said why would i buy it if i already paid for xp and it does all the same shit as vista. (atleast at my level, which is to browse internet use office products and play games). and plus i already know it will make my computer lag like shit since all i got is.
athlon 64x4000, 1gig of ram at 400mhz. and ati xt800
oh btw to whoever wanted to know of a good firewall.

Meh, Windows Update isn't that important. On XP anyway. People have had no Windows Updates for a while now because of WGA and all that crap. Personally, I haven't used Windows Update once since I reinstalled XP a year ago. I had to reinstall it because the old one broke after installing a Windows Update. How ironic.

k, had another problem which ended up with me having to reinstall all over again.
apparently vista doesnt like dual video cards unless they match, so i had to start all over using xp drivers

Heh - That happened to me as-well, Updated, Tryed to play some CS:S and it kept messing up, Then most of my games started not to work.
After a format and reinstall.. they worked perfectly, so no Windows Updates for me.
Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.
