I thought this was really neat... I just got a call from one of our local Navy recruiters today, and he offered me a job. The job: Programming for Top Secret Advanced Missle Systems. So, my first thought was "eh?". Apparently I'm in the top 1% of students in my area for this, and was highly recommended by the Tech Department in my school district.
So, I thought I'd share the news because I think its really neat. And I'm pretty serious about it, so I invited the recruiter over tomorrow at 4:30 to talk about it!

A lot of it would be top secret work, and some not, according to him. I'll find out more tomorrow after he visits my house. Its kind of nerve-wracking though, it would be an entirely new experience. I still have 1 year of school left before I can actually join into the military, but its still a lot to think about during that period of time.

I got a good laugh out of that.
I hope it turns out to be something worthwile. It scares me to think that it could be nothing more than a recruiting technique to get in your house. Good luck, let us know what comes of it.

I've met most, if not all, of the recruiters in my area, as well in other towns around my area. I'm in the JROTC and we get recruiters constantly, and this last year I don't think we had one I haven't met.
I hope its worthwhile too.

Recruiters will do all but suck your dick to get you to enlist. Make sure you realize that you are going into the military, and not just "getting a job". If that is your goal (joining the military) then cool.

My friend Joshua had a similar experience. (Pre-Iraq, Conflict free military) They told him he was going to be working with computers in a mobile command station somewhere around Washington state.
He told me he saw a computer once while he was walking the wire at a military base in Italy.

I will definitely be watching for any suspicious comments this recruiter says tomorrow... I've had the honor of living with and knowing a lot of people who were in the military and what lies they were told by recruiters, so hopefully tomorrow will go well.

Right now, I have no idea. I have a few people who could run it while I'm away, although development of our main products would be a dead halt.

there, fixed it for my thoughts, "yeah, sure, you can be in this killer new group we created, you are smart"... btw, i ended up working on aircraft weapons systems, which sounds really kewl, until you realise part of the job is carrying 400lb missles on your shoulder with another guy.
