Military service for citizen ship has some advantages and disadvantages.

On the one hand you are solving the crunch for troops. There are a LOT of Mexicans wanting citizenship.

On the other hand you have essentially mercenaries fighting for us. That didn't pan out very well for the Romans :/ Also they are fighting for something they cannot yet enjoy. I think if you did that you would probably have to give them a three year contract, and make them citizens at that point. I mean sure there'd be some who sign up for the army and try to skip out but think about it. What are they gonna do? Flee the country! Ah ha ha. That was a good one I think. Anyhow if you made them citizens right then when they officially entered the army they would in fact be American citizens fighting for America. By the way they can't be trained or commanded unless they speak English. Just seems win win win win to me. So they sell some chicle, buy a book to learn some English, go to the border and sign a contract with the US government, become an enslisted man and become a US citizen. Sounds great.

By the way gbull I agree about the welfare thing. I was glad to see you cede the point about the truely disabled though. In an ideal world there would be no welfare but there really are people out there who cannot make a living. My brother is autistic and if my family wasn't still supporting him there's no way on Earth he could make it on his own. He's 25 and works 1 day a week at the Library shelving books.

If only there was some way to make the welfare system more... lean. Some way to prevent people from just living off it without cause.
