People with Vista, help ?! [message #256363]

my brother just got a new computer and it came yesterday with vista of course. we installed renegade but we can't open it. an error comes up saying....

"Renegade has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

But of course it never comes up with a solution...anyone know how to fix it or if we can fix it? or is my brother fucked and can't play renegade?!

I had that happen to me once. I just tried running it again and it worked. I still don't know why it happened.

That happened to me all the time. Just keep trying, or try to jab the Renegade button before it crashes, then it works.

Right click -> Compatibility mode -> XP Service pack 2

But since Vista behaved like a fucktard to every single program I had, I downgraded back to XP. Vista adds nothing new, exept the requirements for better hardware.

I also noticed Renegade started to lag like a retard, after a certain ammount of kbps ingame. Under Vista Renegade was unable to maintain a steady connection, with lagspikes every second. Back on XP it ran smooth again.

So good luck with this virus called Vista.

With the latest vista updates I have noticed I no longer need to run it in SP2 mode, not sure which patch fixed the compatibility, or if my computer is just in a good mood Razz

i had no problems.

i gave everyone full permissions on the westwood folder. set it on administrator mode. and i have had no problems at all.

hi, i wondered if you guys could help me.

i just installed vista ultimate.

vista doesnt let you install ren properly, so you have to copy the install folder from the cd and extract all the game folders.

only problem is that because ren is not officially installed, when i run the v1.037 patch update it cant find the ren install directory, and theres no way to browse to it.

please help me i need my renegade fix.

There's no reason why Vista wouldn't let you install Renegade properly.

after i enter the cd key and asks me where to install, i click ok and it gives me a syntax error.

theres a message board about it somewhere that just says to copy files from the cd and extract the game files.

the game works i just cant update it...

i HAVE tried that. \ or even if i type the full path directory still the same syntax error. like i said theres a message board that says ren install isnt compatible with vista.

I installed it fine on vista. Just use the default settings.

NB: ALWAYS run installers in admin mode. (Right click setup.exe or w/e, hit run as administrator)
