I just got one of these since I stupidly (and of course accidentally) poured a few ounces of Pepsi into my old Logitech cordless keyboard.
I'm TOTALLY loving the neat TeamSpeak 2 plugin for it, but I'm wondering if there's any interest in a Renegade one. The keyboard comes with an SDK to write your own apps for it. I'm sure I don't have the talent necessary to write anything, but I'd love to hook up with someone or someones to make it happen.
So, let me know if you have one of these keyboards or if you'd like to help with a program for it.
I'm the bawss.

Copyright (C) 2006 Logitech Inc. All Rights Reserved
Important First Step
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have modified the structure of the SDK package. It is a must that you
remove any older versions of the SDK, along with all of it's directories
and files, prior to using (unzipping) this new package.
Introduction
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This package is aimed at any one that wants to develop an applet for the
Logitech G15 LCD product. The package contains two sets of SDKs:
- Logitech LCD SDK
- Logitech EZ LCD Wrapper SDK
Logitech LCD SDK
This package contains the main LCD library (lglcd.lib) and it's accompanying
header file (lglcd.h). Using this package, a developer can connect to the LCD
and provide bitmaps to be displayed on the LCD.
Logitech EZ LCD Wrapper SDK
This is a set of classes that make the connection and use of the LCD very simple.
It comes with it's own documentation and samples. It is meant to be an easier
starting point than using the complete LCD SDK.
Environment
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The environment for use of this package is as follows:
1. Visual C++ 6.0 to build and run demo
2. Drivers installed for G-series keyboards
3. Logitech LCD SDK package
Disclaimer
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is work in progress. If you find anything wrong with either
documentation or code, please let us know so we can improve it.

The Optimus-103 (black and white keys) is out now but costs a hefty $1200 (£600) because of the cost to make each one. The 113 will be color and they're not using OLED's anymore because they cost too much.
Basically you can change what each key looks like, not only what it does. Take a look at the quake pic and photoshop pic. The only thing that needs doing for the 113 is the software to create your own keys.
You can get the Optimus Mini Three which is basicly the same but with three, 2"x2" screens on them to display data of you desire.
I'm so getting one of these!

Holy cracker that's a nice keyboard. I would be too tempted to put porn on the keys. Or better yet write a program to do it to others, Ah fun times for when grandma comes over to visit.
I would definitely use those ten buttons on the side for different categories of porn. Most popular at the top then down from there. Asian..lesbian..then at the very bottom some horse sex. Everyone watches that every once and again, grows hair on your chest. Or perhaps I've said too much.

I ordered that keyboard myself, just yesterday!
Should be here tuesday.
I'm also very interested in seeing LCD addons!
I have a few ideas if anyone is willing to have a fiddle and implement them?
1. Messenger service for when you are in game without minimising
2. Notification of replies/posts/threads in forums also displaying topic info
3. Bank account balance lol
4. Notification when a certain online comic is updated
5. Download info for Torrents or Windows Download.
6. Random EQ visualisations
7. FPS, CPU+GPU temps,RAM usage (all in game) and instead of the big FRAPS fps number on your screen, having it on the LCD would be cool
I want to say a HUD... but that'd take your eyes off the game and thus defeat the object of "heads UP "
But, a renegade weapons/ammo count would be cool. Time(left), credits, Map/Game{info}.
I personally have no programming experience in C++, well, No programming experience at all. I have basic IRC scripting knowledge thats it.
This is looking to be an awesome keyboard and I cant wait!

Actually, this LCD is graphical... So why not focus on in-game animations.
Say for instance you destroy a building, Shoot someone, Run someone over, Fix a building/Vehicle/Infantry, Deactivate a mine or anything that it can praise you for. Then again it could also tell you how much you suck if you get killed, get run over, have a building destroyed which you were repairing etc.
From what I gather, the hard part is only going to be getting access/hooks to variables, but in ren they are readily available to be pulled from the game and inserted with a nice animation onto the LCD, right?
The LCD is capable of 30FPS... So even a game specifically for it is possible!
Or maybe it could show you your name every [x] seconds, just so you don't forget.
In the mean time I found this = http://www.G15mods.com
Someone jump on this bandwagon and let's get going!

There is a software called LCD Studio that I played with last night and it allows you to pull from TONS of variables from software and hardware and make custom layouts and triggers for them. It is already capable of getting your FPS and a couple other things from FRAPS.
But I think this could be awesome for Renegade. Blazer just suggested to me having both teams' building health displayed.

For those of you who do own a G15, how do you like them? I've had my eye on one for awhile now and am thinking about buying it. Pros/Cons/Opinions on the G15?

I think its a great keyboard, you can still type with it and it doesnt have any useless features like a lot of multimedia keyboards. The backlit display is great for seeing in the dark and the usb ports are also helpfull.
Only things i could say I don't like is that the keys are hard to see when theres no back light (turn on the backlight) and the usb ports dont work with anything that requires power. Look around for a deal, unlike most things, there not the same price everywhere. Some are as much as $80 canadian, I got mine for $50.

The info available on the "K" key in game would be very useful on the LCD.. I hate having the full screen dominated by those 3 pages under is it "J" "K" and "L"
Animation for -
when a team mate purchases a vehicle/type of vehicle
mine limit
% of total base health left
time left
map name
fps
ping
A ren-style-clock ... so you know when you've played long enough
When nothing interesting is happening ie. You aren't actually playing ren, cycling through say 10 random visualisations (ren themed) would be cool.
Ion/Nuke Warnings to add some nice tension!
Those are just a few ideas i've had. I'm sure I thought of more, but i'm tired and can't think now.

Crimson, do you think that its possible to program non-game related tasks into the LCD? I haven't read anything on the G15 yet, and am pretty curious.

I think so. From my understanding, your code makes the values available and then you can use LCD Studio to place the variables wherever you want them from any number of modules.
It's not. :\

People have known about the Optimus for years. We thought it'd never come out, and if it did, it would be a rather insane price. Well, here it is, with an insane price tag along with some disappointment... (black and white keys instead of color). OLED should be cheaper than LCD. I'm not exactly sure why it's a problem here, but I'm sure it's something I don't know of.
Oh, and also, it's not out 'till May.

I am planning on either buying this keyboard or 1 GB of RAM. If I buy the keyboard, I am going to program some valuable things for it, and I would be more than happy to program Renegade related things for it as well.

After using a wide variety of keyboards (and yes the G15 too), I must say that nothing can come close to comparing to the Cyborg Series Keyboard from Saitek. I purchased this keyboard along with the Cyborg Series mouse, and I must say it was a very wise investment. And yes, its one of those investments that is 1000% better when you actually see them in person.

But to be honest this keyboard simply kicks ass, imagine programing it for Renegade, or for A.P.B. you can have a Meck+Med jump out then repair and get back in combo button, or for any program it.
