Hey, I just got C&C Renegade mainly for LAN with my bros, but I look on the net and see all thease patches, mods, bot stuff etc. It iss all really confusing and I am just wondering if there are any renegade "know it all's" out there who would add me on MSN [MICHAEL_STEPHEN_LAFORTUNE@HOTMAIL.COM] and give me some tutorials on all thease add ons. By the way, nice forums here.

Welcome.
1. Install patch 1.037 if you have not already done so. You can get it here.
2. Run Renegade, go to Multiplayer Internet -> WOL (Westwood Online) -> Advanced Game Listings. Just type in the account name you wish to use and the password you wish to use and the account will automatically be created for you. Log out and close Renegade.
3. Install Renguard anti-cheat. You can get it here.
4. [optional] Install CP2 (Core Patch 2). This is automatically downloaded and installed from Renguard if you enable Core Patches.
5. Have fun!

Welcome to The Renegade forums. :]
There are plenty of server's for you to have fun on, You can download RenGuard What is a anti-cheat program, http://renguard.com
When you install that it will download a corepatch, So you're up-to-date on everything. 
You can download Fan-maps from loads of places, Try google, I just woke up and I can't be bothered to get a few links, www.renhelp.net has a few awsome maps tho. 
A Bot is a Server regulator, It helps moderators and admins help keep there server in order by kicking nasty folks that don't deserve to be in there server, And cheaters!
A mod is a total conversion mod turning Renegade into another game using the Renegade Engine, Apoc Rising and Reborn and A Path Beyond are a few good mods, Some are still in progress tho.

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

DON'T DOWNLOAD RENGUARD ITS FREAKING GAY!
Just download CP2 (core patch 2) and you should be fine.

On the popularity issue: you can usually find around 400-800 players on WOL at the same time and a couple of hundred on gamespy as well. In total we must come to around 10.000 unique players per month.
There's a huge amount of servers, way too many actually.
