I never did here why Westwood gave EA command of their company, and why EA shut Westwood down. Does anyone know (I know it happened a while ago, but I could not find anything on it).

I think EA may have traded them something called money.

Westwood was owned by Virgin Interactive, which then sold the company to EA I believe.

QFT.

Yes, it sucks. Unfortunately, that's how big business works sometimes.

It's that simple, at what point did Westwood get bought by Virgin Interactive, or has it always been part of them?

I f I remember, Tiberian Sun was "owned" by EA, but they didn't involve themselves that much. They let Westwood do as they pleased, and the EA logo on the box was almost microscopic. When Generals came around, however, it was EA holding the reigns.

PS: Westwood, along with Virgin, were responsible for The Lion King on Sega Genesis, one of my favorite games when I was just starting gaming.

EA also owned RA2, and Renegade, but luckily for us they were still letting Westwood do as they pleased, but it looks like our luck ran out before Ren 2.

Well I just finished reading the Wikipedia article and one line in particular stands out:
Quote:

One of the last games released by Westwood, Command & Conquer: Renegade (an action game which mixed elements from first-person shooters and real-time strategy games) failed to meet consumer expectations and commercial goals Westwood and EA had set for it.

I might have to modify that.
Oh I can't, well I was just going to make it say, "One of the last games released by Westwood, Command & Conquer: Renegade (an action game which mixed elements from first-person shooters and real-time strategy games) although it meet consumer expectations, it failed to meet the extremely high commercial requirements that EA had set for Westwood."
I hope EA regrets their decision every day, beings all their sports games ultra suck.
So Westwood's team reformed to create Petroglyph, I probably would have never guessed, I suppose they now know to stay far away form EA, I wish them luck.

Practically the dawn of computers (with games)!
But I have never heard anyone really say any Westwood game sucked, so they must have been a good company for all their games.

Anyone remember Monopoly from Westwood? It was great. Used to play it all the time when I was around 7.
