Hello, I have recently re-installed renegade so my renguard would work(some renguard bug made me do so). When I go to Internet, it tells me that there is a new version of Renegade, and so I downloaded it- but when it told me that Renegade would restart, the download screen closed and said that I was missing a patch or something like that.

If you're getting that message it means you've install things possibly in the wrong order.
It's best to:
Install Renegade
Install patch 1.037 (thats the one you're getting prompted for)
Startup the game, configure your keys and play the first mission, then save the game (I was getting weird errors that went away after I had actually started Ren and done a single player mission)
Install Renguard
Let Renguard download the core patch(es)
Install any skins/mods etc.
Play.
