You're forgetting that not everyone has the funds to get 2GB of RAM. 2GB of RAM for a good set still costs around $250-$350 depending on the quality and brand and even 1GB of RAM still ranges ~$120. And not everyone is going to upgrade their hardware right away to "rise up to the software", especially when both the hardware needed and software application are expensive.
