Hi. I love Renegade, I do, but it's kinda difficult to love it when my computer dies while playing.

Basically, I'm playing on Westwood online for half an hour, maybe even an hour, and suddenly the screen goes black, and the computer is unresponsive until i press the reset button. This has happened several dozen times....every time I play Renegade online. This does not happen while playing other games such as Civ III, Rome Total War, Half Life 2, or other games that can be even more graphics intensive.
Once or twice though, the screen didnt go black, just distorted, and the sounds stuck around, though repeating, but the computer still needed to be reboot.

According to two tools I found, my CPU and vid card temperatures (when I crash) have reached around 45 deg celcius and 58 degrees respectively. This should be nowhere near hot enough to cause a system failure.

I have an AMD Athlon 3000+ CPU and a Radeon 9600XT Video Card, more than enough to play Renegade.

I am using RenGuard 1.03 with Renegade 1.037

Any idea what the problem could be?

Ahh

I have a ATi Radeon X550. And on Condition Zero or Counter Strike: Source my screen goes black as-well and i have to restart by the button. I think it's DirectX 9.0, Have you updated to that version?

I'm going to take a random guess and say turn your pc off for a good 12 hours. That usually does the trick for me, It will give your graphics card and other hardware to cool down.

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

45 is still hot though, and 58 for a graphics card is odd.

My X1650, upon the close of -any- D3D application blacks the screen for a few seconds, I don't know why, but it all works ok.

How old is your hard drive? Defragment it as well

Renguard is a wonderful initiative
