I recently bought a laptop and im going to get an external hard drive tomorrow.

I'd like to install an application/program for use on both my laptop and desktop.

I had thought of copying the program's registry keys from the 1st system I install it on....but sometimes finding all the keys for a program can be time consuming (or is there any application that can do that?)

Desktop has XP sp2 and laptop has XP MCE sp2...Im assuming the registry is the same for both?

is there any easy solution for this?

also, just for benchmark testing can i have a program installed/ran on two different drives on one system?

Install the application on both systems, that way it will install registry settings and keys for each system pointing to that external hard drive of yours.

That would work providing you made sure that the drive letter of the external HD didn't change as you added other portable storage devices, which can be done from Computer Management.

At least, I assume it would work, seeing as I have many programs cross-installed pointing to a network storage device here, and they all work!

Yes, but the info retrieved from the network drive also retrieves the registry settings from the system it was installed through.
