Fps drops why? How can i fix [message #237519]

Usually my fps in game is about 120 its been consistent for months at 120, and since yesterday, my fps every time i join a game is 18 or something around there, also If i host a game, and im the only person in it, the fps is 120 again but soon as some other client joins it reverts back to 18.

How can i solve this problem, Thanks for any help you guys will provide.

Wrong section, you'll find that the smaller the game, the higher your FPS. I find 30 to be nice, I only get 15 on this though (I have two PCs)

i think your misunderstanding me, in games I usually get 120 fps with .. with my computer suddenly every game i join i get 16 fps

Mabey your Graphics card is fried?

I haven't installed any new scripts, um.. and how could i know or check if my vid card was fried??

and if it was.. why would i still get my normal fps in like single player games or when i host a 1 player game?

Hmm, I don't know what to do, have you installed something like limewire or anything that might take up BW and CPU?

Did you turn the detail up? (I always play with stupidly high detail levels because I prefer fewer, prettier frames against several ugly ones)

Can you tell me what your CPU speed is, how much RAm you have, what your graphics card is, and if you made any changes to the hardware recently?

I haven't installed anything recnetly and my detail is set at what it is usually set it when it was 120 +

@MuffinJay: Try and play another game, if your FPS is lower than usual, You need a new one.

Other games play fine, Renegade plays fine also, single player plays fine, if i host a game and im on the only one in it, it plays fine.. its just when another client joins the game, its either a glitch or a bug.. that causes my fps to go to 18 .. and make my ren feels like i have blue screen bug..

I figure it must be a glitch, because once 1 person joins the fps is 18 and if i join a game with about 30 people in it.. its still 18

Launch task manager, and sort by CPU usage and see if there is anything that is using cpu that looks suspicious. Post a screenshot if you can.

Are you on a laptop? I ask because I noticed the power status icon in your systray. I would download CPUZ http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-138.zip and use it to see if your CPU is currently running at full speed. Some systems slow down your CPU if it is either idle or running too hot.

Minimizing Renegade to show the task manager is worthless. It doesn't give you any real results. This is because it idles Renegade and the Windows kernel cuts the CPU usage. You have to run Renegade in windowed mode so that you can view the task manager while you're in Renegade (this means having the game maximized and focused). Also, please show us the performance tab, not the processes tab.

kill these processes:

explorer.exe
ati2evxx
aim6
msnmsgr.exe
msascui.exe

when you are out of ren go to file\new task and then type in explorer.exe to get windows back. when you have ended the explorer.exe process, go to the applications tab, right click renegade and click bring to front. if this doesn't help, it shouldn't be a process problem.
lan changed? router added or re-directed? robbed egyption tombs?

Well, one solution I haven't seen yet is to reinstall Renegade. Try that.

Lol @ explorer.exe

Go to Start > Run > msconfig > Startup Tab > Disable All

Will disable all unnecessary startup programs that may hog you cpu. It works for me when I have overloading problems. Thumbs Up

Don't do that. He doesn't know what he is doing. You don't want to block EVERYTHING from the startup. Plus, doing so won't help your performance at all.
