This is not regarding Dance Dance Revolution! That's a joke, so laugh.
I'm looking to get myself some more memory for Christmas (yeah, I know it's a week away... I only just got the monies for it). Problem is that I know next to jack shit about hardware stuff, memory especially.

All I know is that it's DDR400, which is apparently (?) the same thing as PC3200... ?
In any case, I'm looking to upgrade from 1GB (2x512MB) total to either 2GB, 3GB or hopefully 4GB.
I've read things regarding ECC, registered, dual channel, etc... what's the difference? Are they all compatible? Are they not compatible? I'm fairly certain that my current memory is dual channel (on boot-up, the BIOS mentions that the memory is "operating in dual channel mode").
Any recommendations?

This is going to sound pretty obviously, but you need to check what kind of memory your system requires and use only that type of memory (consistantly with all sticks). Make sure your memory's clock matches your cpu's clock, etc. and is under the limit of your bus speed - for maximum performance.

ECC and Registered usually mean the same thing. You don't *need* ECC unless it's the only kind your board takes (doubtful, unless its a server-class board). AFAIK all DDR is dual-channel and performs best in like-pairs.

You want unbuffered, not registered (ECC). Registered is meant only for servers. Also, you have DDR because in your system specifications it says 184-pin. PC3200 IS DDR400, and you want that speed because you have a Pentium 4.

I upgraded the graphics card to an ATI Radeon X800 XL several months after purchasing the computer. Additionally, I added another 250GB hard drive, as well as a 500GB.
I do use the computer for gaming, but not strictly gaming. I also use it to do just about everything a computer can do: write & debug software, compress & watch videos, work with (small) databases, etc... jack of all trades, if you will.

Just remember to make sure it's 128 pin DIMM (single notch) otherwise it won't fit the socket on your motherboard.
