Download and install Vista RC1 on a small test machine and use that for whatever, Maybe the Fraps and Vegas video editing software you called for?

oh, and people are intitled to opionins and experience with windows. some people are lucky it like the hardware they have and may run quite well.

BUT...windows vista is out of the question, mabe when it comes out and i can pirate it and put it on VMware but otherwise NTLDR isnt going near my HDD's MBR. im not going to torcher it.

im not trying to persuade people to go over to linux, because im not botherd about peoples closed mindeness. but if they wanted to try it, download VMware player and i can setup a machine for it ready for a install.

My PC dies cause of my 7950GT overheating (crappy ass fan..) so I just switch my gfx cards a bit, so if your PC is dieng, its not cause of the OS. Its cause of the GPU.

Doesn't always have to be GPU... could be anything hardware related.

like i said before, this is not hardware related. i know the cause of the crashes and NONE have been randomly.

Viva la Resistance!
I can't say that Windows has ever randomly crashed for no reason, because there's always some process running that can hang. Wink
Also, I get the feeling a lot of the trouble Windows gets is from people writing crappy programs for it, along with the fact it can't really handle them as well as Linux. If I pay £40 for ZoneAlarm Pro (Not that I have) I expect it to work, but the copy my mother bought randomly uses 100% of the CPU when another program crashes, and because of the security measures I can't end it from Task Manager. Sad
(In conclusion, I'm blaming some of the crappyness on Windows, and some on software devs.) Big Grin

but shouldn't windows be able to automaticly detect a lockup and end the offending program? like KDE. all microsoft need to do is look at KDE and learn from it.

It can, you just have to enable it. I don't remember where you can enable it, but System Mechanic has an option that can enable this for you, and there is a API call you can use if you write a small program. You will have to dig deep into MSDN to find it, though.

There is another setting for it, that is always enabled, and cannot be disabled. Sometimes, when I have allot of spyware, and run Ad-Aware, this little window pops up says the computer will be shutdown in 60 seconds. Maybe cause a certain file has been opened up.

And when my PSU failed on my old computer, it gave me a warning that in 5 minutes your computer will shutdown and crash.

i really couldn't help but laugh at that. mabe im completely wrong, but i still find it funny.

windows will shutdown is one of its deamons has been stopped you have a virus attached to one of em and adware need to shutit down to remove it.

also, i dont see how windows could detect a faulty PSU. it has nothing to do with it.

oh, and not many people know how to make any programs to "unlock" their computer.

A faulty PSU can caus alot of problems. Also making your Windows unstable. But I'd say 90% of the users having problems with Windows are just handling it wrong. (using p2p and browsing the wrong sites, illigal software/cracked hey no wonder it gets unstable then.)

ofc it can, but really...the chance of it hapening are just about 0. if it does, your motherbaord should report it, unless that is faulty as well.

How is the chance 0, do you realize how many people use some cheap case with a cheap powersupply in it that says 500watt but it actually delivers the half or less? One of the most important PC parts is actually a powersupply (When it comes to stability) because that it what gives the voltage to all hardware in it if not delivering sufficient making it unstable and giving BSOD and what not.

Your motherboard does not report it as in an error code the only reason youl see it reported is that when it won't boot up anymore or when it inflicted major damage due to insuficient power.

You can however take a look at the hardware monitor in your bios and look up to the voltages that your PSU give. And if it's not within range then you can take a look at it with a fluke meter since the BIOS is not always accurate.

People who think Windows is a good operating system are nubcakes.

Guess I'm a nubcake.

Face it. Windows wouldn't have any of these problems if it wasn't a good operating system. Why do you think almost all the viruses are written for Windows? Because most people use it. If +90% people switched from Windows to Linux, Linux would be in the exact same situation Windows is now.

Erm, no. The reason Windows has so many problems is because it's absolute shit.

Let's not forget 60% of the sites on the Internet are powered by some type of *nix variant.

I suppose it's only fair that you get to have your opinion, although some elaboration would be nice.

It's rather unfair to compare internet servers with personal computers.

it is yes.

i admit, i havn't found any bugs with windows. BUT, the way it works internally is what lets it down. plus the fact the microsoft monitor everyhting you do and have this stupid grafical interface.

and ".net" yet another way for viruses to get into your computer Thumbs Up
