At least this is completely offtopic and I agree with Icedog90 here, this should not be continued in this thread.

Viva la Resistance!
Two major points I would like to make:

(1) The Renegade community is still alive because of the COMMUNITY. The players, the modders, the programmers, etc. The resolve of the developers is more than the resolve of the people who get bored with the game - thus keeping fresh material and interest. The resolve of the anticheat developers is greater than that of the cheaters - thus anticheats are being developed each time a new cheat is discovered. I think the end result here is predictable ... as long as the community has this resolve to keep the game alive it will stay alive. A game is only as fun as the community makes it and this community has proven they love Renegade.

(2) BHS is dedicated to CnC as are a lot of other people. They've done a lot of great work and continue to do what they can to help. But they're not game developers. You need the consolidated efforts of the community to produce quality "mods" (Ren2). ^

Or the w3d engine source code, which EA will never release in a million billion years.

True, but we'll probably crack it in 2-3 years.

What would we need in terms of soft- and hardware to do that?

I think we need things in terms of people and skill rather than soft- and hardware... Which is probably harder to get than soft- and hardware. Razz

technically all scripts.dll mods etc are illigal, as they change the original software. So that shouldnt make much of a difference I think.

There is no way in hell EA would create Renegade 2. HOWEVER there is the smallest little slice of a chance in this world that EA would release the renegade engine to the community. Although I doubt they ever would since its supporting the mod community and mods don't make EA anymore money. They lose them money from lost market shares.

What I would like to see is something by Dante. Oh wait! Thats already happening... I can't wait for Dead6 to get completed. Screw messing around trying to get EA to do something. The Dead6 teams already at it and from what I hear has quite a bit done.

When BF2 first was coming out I was all excited. New graphics, vehicles, maps, etc...

I started to play the game and at first glance the game is awesome. Getting into a helicopter and manning the gun or parachuting out of one, flying. I mean just the whole game just kind of draws you in and you play the game for a while.

Level up through the ranks while you learn the game then after awhile you come to realize its just a glorified capture the flag game with really kewl graphics.

BF2 was a real disappointment. It got boring fast and became just another boring capture the flag game. Yawnnn!!!

Renegade I can still play for hours and never get bored of it. I doubt there will be another game like it unless they come out with Renegade 2. Enemy Territory looks interesting and I hope its more like Ren then it is like BF2.

Someone posted about mods ruining the game of Ren. You get that with any game that’s out there. Abusive mods, abusive servers, eventually they weed themselves out. FPS games like Unreal tournament always bored the hell out of me. Renegade was the first game to get me online and keep me online.

Just curious anyone knows what happened to the old Westwood, not so much the company but the developers of renegade. Instead of petitioning EA maybe send something to them from the fans of Ren.

Most of the creators of Renegade now work here.

they made Star Wars: Empire at War.

What if instead of begging for the source code and doing nothing, we offered to buy it from EA. I mean, it can't cost too much for a four year-old first person shooter engine.

The most likely scenario is that people donate to BHS, and BHS buy it.

I'd imagine any source code would cost a lot of money.

It's not just the source code.

You also have to purchase the rights to the Command & Conquer title, any associated rights and privileges, the rights to the Renegade game, and its associated rights and privileges, the right to use the EA logo and its associated rights and privileges. Those alone would be more that I'm sure most people would be willing to donate for.

Why would BHS have to purchase those along with the source code? Because by having complete control of the game, they would then be representing EA, Command & Conquer and Renegade by interacting with the public through any changes to the game.

I feel 100% exactly the same way. Except I have played Enemy Territory, and it is nothing like Renegade. I mostly did not like it because I did not know what was I supposed to do in the game, unlike in Renegade where you have only 2 goals: attack or defend.
