This is mostly directed at United States citizens, but I think its idea could apply to a citizen of any voting country...

Quote:

DontVote.org encourages people to Vote, but only AFTER they have educated themselves on the policies and individuals for which they are voting. Voting should be considered a privilege and exercised with responsibility and discretion. Just like a final exam, responsible voting requires self-education and thought. When the time comes to cast your ballot, if you don't know for what or whom you're voting, then DON'T VOTE.

I agree that you need to be educated about who your voting for before you vote. Seriously though, amidst all the bullshit, how can you positively discern fact from farce? Take my state for example:

I will be voting for Dick Devos for Govenor of Michigan. Only because during the time Jennifer Granholm has been in office, our state has taken the 50th(That's last...) seat in terms of top economy. To me, that's unforgivable. However, there are so many globs of mud being thrown in each direction between the candidates that I can't discern any other reasons for which I should vote one way or the other.

It's a She did that! Nu-uh! and besides he did that! type argument between the two. It's disgusting.

Viva la Resistance!
It's all relative to personal opinion because what one person sees as educated or "making a correct choice" may not be the same to the other.

While I do agree that many people are ignorant bastards, that is still just my opinion -and thinking otherwise would make me ignorant. (think deep, lol)

Anyway, since I'm pretty 'Darwinistic' I would say let the idiots vote and deal with who they vote into office. If they're dumb and vote in someone stupid ... then a dumb nation is represented by dumb individuals because of dumb decisions.

Though that may be annoying and usually frightening, it is still democracy at its truest form, and I think it should be respected as more of a God-given right then a privledge.

If working with absolutes, the fools should still vote so that a fair and democratic result is still earned---rather than the poll resulting in a psuedo-democratic election.

Maybe rather than telling people not to vote because they're dumb we should spend that energy educating them so they are more likely to make a more accurate assessment of the decision to be made.

Politicians are like diapers: They need to be changed constantly, and for the same reason.
