40. McAfee-Question: Is Windows a virus?
No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do:
1. They replicate quickly - okay, Windows does that.
2. Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so - okay, Windows does that.
3. Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk - okay, Windows does that too.
4. Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems. Sigh... Windows does that, too.
5. Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2.) and the user will buy new hardware. Yup, that's with Windows, too.
Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences:
Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature.
So Windows is not a virus. It's a bug.

100. What's the difference between windows '95 and highly destructive unstoppable virus? About 90 Megs of hard disk space.
101. Coming soon: EDLIN for Windows
102. I've got two Windows hardware emulators! Really! They works much more reliable than the original: one for Windows 3.11, one for Windows95.
Unfortunately they have superscriped the emulator keys wrongly, so that on the Windows 3.11 emulator key "TURBO" and on the Windows 95 emulator is written "RESET"... But doesn't matter, works great.

Where did the emulators thing come from? Talk about not knowing what the crap you're saying. The only time you'd use an emulator is if you wanted to try Linux gaming. There are so many open-source programs and great equivalents that are all entirely free (that are for Linux). A lot of them I like much more than the equivalents I've seen on Windows.
Linux is a whole different world to discover.

Merovingian wrote on Mon, 02 October 2006 18:01 | Even as i stand as a Windows user (XPP and Vista), i found some of these very amusing.
I have used a Macintosh before and wanted to test how Windows ran on it, using Dual Boot. It asked me to update to the latest version of Mac OSX (10.7) and guess what, the Dual Boot feature wouldent install itself on this version.
Never used Linux before but it seems everything has to be done through emulators?
I'm a Windows man, no matter how anyone puts it, and i probably will be untill i see a better version of something that doesn't have to run programs as an 'disk image' (.iso (Mac)) and doesn't need to run emulations to get it to do what you want (Linux).
|
I know little about Linux, but your comments about the Mac are completely false. 10.7 isn't even announced as far as I know of. No Macintosh programs "have to" run as a 'disk image'. Not to mention that Mac disk images are generally ".dmg" rather than ".iso". Why don't you actually go and use a Mac before you try to bash it?

I agree. I'm on a Mac right now (OS version 10.4.8 on my MacBook Pro w/ Intel CoreDuo 2.17gHz and 2 gigs of RAM) and I have used the Boot Camp software to dual boot to Windows XP ever since the day Boot Camp was released without a problem. Disk images (.dmg) are just Mac's version of a ZIP file. Once you install the app (which is the difficult procedure of dragging and dropping the app into your "Applications" folder) you eject the disk image and delete it.
I'm the bawss.
