Don't think that Tom's didn't want exactly that to happen either...
Normally with an Athlon the computer would just shut down when it got too hot, I know as I've tried it before. I started an old computer we have with an Athlon 1700 with no heatsink on, and within 15s it shutdown. That box still works, I have linux on it running 24/7 now. What happened in those tests is they used a motherboard that didn't support that feature. VIA sucks.
Also notice that the Intels still have their IHS while the Athlons had theirs removed.

Heh, funny videos, but as said, modern motherboards shut down when the temps go too high, and it's not like heatsinks have a habit of spontaneously unclipping themselves from the CPU anyway

CPUs don't explode when you remove the heatsink, nor do they leave a hole in the motherboard. those people just used a firecracker to blow it up.

i was going to say the same thing, these guys are just dickheads. AMD are the best, never failed me. the problem with AMD is that the chipset nowerdays are so crappy and cheap so you dont get the full potential out of your processor.
AMD get hotter fast becuase they are doing much more that the intel processors are. this is just my theory btw i don't know much about the workings of a processor expect AMD processors do more than intels do.
