My schools requires this to log onto its network. Problem is that it causes me to lag. It is the only thing left that can cause it.

I will be playing fine for 15-20 minutes and then out of nowhere my ping just goes through the room. Sometimes well over 6k. Then after maybe 15-20 minutes it goes back down. This is during all hours of the day.

I have looked up the issue and people have the same problems. Is there anyway around it?

Amazing what Cisco's help database has to offer. See if this works.

Quote:

Q. I configured bandwidth management for the unauthenticated role, and my connection (or the Cisco Clean Access Manager) to the Cisco Clean Access Server is now very slow and it occasionally times out. Why is this?

A. In release 3.2, the communication bandwidth between the Cisco Clean Access Manager and the Cisco Clean Access Server is governed by the Unauthenticated Role bandwidth settings. Based on what your settings are, it can affect the communication bandwidth and can occasionally affect configuration publishing.

Cisco recommends that you do not set bandwidth management for the unauthenticated role in version 3.2 per this example:

And it is amazing to think I have control over that portion of it.

Talk to your admins then I guess.

Cisco are smart enough not to leave any control in the hands of end users.

Well, since it must be enabled to access the network, unless you want to do something improper and disable it (bypassing is included in this), you have to work from within the program itself. Of course, disabling it could have its consequences, so I didn't think you'd want to do that.

Is this even causing it?

Are there such restrictions that would limit my connection from playing games?

Maybe the school network uses a proxy or a program like Ranger or somehting similar?

I know my schools network is very restrictive on what users do, i mean, i can't connect to my comp at home (VNC @ 5800) because of it.

Does this happen even when your not playing the game?

I was going to say maybe it relimits your download rate after detecting that you are using alot of it for a cirtain period of time(15-20 mins i guess Huh )

No, download speeds never go down. I downloaded the BF 2142 demo at 700 plus kb/sec.

My school uses this program as well. I thought the lag I got in Renegade there was from them not setting up a Renegade partition in the packetshaper, but since the ResNet forum disappeared, and I never got a reply to my PM before that happened, I didn't get an answer. Hopefully, if I waste an afternoon on the other end of the campus trying to have them explain and fix this, I won't be randomly hitting pings of 800 anymore.

Edit: funny note, if I do the dslreports.com speed test at night there, I get a huge upload and a regular download for a shared student network, and it thinks the connection's been tweaked.
