For the past couple months I have been having problems with my jaw. It has been out of place, severely. A couple people on these forums have already known about this, but I went to the doctor today, and came back a sad man. Very sad indeed...
The history of my jaw is I have always had a horrible bite. I have a crossbite, underbite, and overbite. Not to the point where it is noticable, but to the point where it is causing problems.
The past couple months I have not been able to move my jaw to the left at all, and have had limited mobility moving it up and down.
So, for all this I went to the doctor today, my 3rd doctor visit for this problem. The doctor diagnosed me with a crossbite, overbite, and underbite. And has pointed out that this is the problem that has caused my jaw to slide out of place over time.
The fix? Braces and surgery. At first thought I was thinking, meh, it won't be so bad... wrong was I...
The braces don't bother me, it is the surgery. The doctor has to fracture my jaw at both joints, and possibly other locations, move the jaw into the correct position for a correct bite, and then I have to wait for it to heal up into place.
Along with that, they have to pull a few of my permenant teeth, and do some other things. I have to miss alot of school for this, which I am not happy about, and this will be very painful.
If this is not done, I will develop Lockjaw, in which, I will not be able to move my jaw at all; Lockjaw can be life threatening.
Out of all this, I just hope nothing goes wrong, and I don't end up with a defective jaw...

WOW, Im sorry to hear that, but if it is life threating you should, if you still want to go on, go with the surgery. Remember you have the right to end your own life.
You should becareful when, or if you fight.
Seriously people how can you fight a war on terrorism with all of your borders wide open!

Wow... good luck with that. I have to get my wisdom teeth surgically removed pretty soon (like, whenever the cavities bug me enough to schedule the work to do done) but jaw surgery is MUCH worse. I hope everything works out OK.

I hope the best for you. He's been telling me about his jaw throughout the summer but he hasn't told me about getting the surgery (at least not yet).
My jaw has also started becoming problematic. I have a small overbite and I need braces for that (just for a year) but I never got them. Now I'm considering getting them because my jaw is starting to have pain at certain times and it clicks a whole lot. The clicking has definitely gotten worse this year. I remember my old orthodontist saying that I mainly need braces to help my jaw grow back in place.
So yeah, I'm really afraid that my jaw will end up like his when I get a lot older if I don't do anything about it soon.

We have not had the money to get my teeth fixed in the past, and are barely going to be able to pull this off.. but yeah, I would not be in this situation had my teeth been corrected even just 1 to 2 years ago.

I know someone who has gone through exactly what you're about to go through.
I'm not going to lie, the sugury is NOT a fun ordeal, my buddy was sucking blended food up a straw for almost 6 weeks before he was allowed to start eating some very soft solids, and nearly a year before he was given the go ahead for harder food like steak.
The braces are not a big bother, but do take a few years. My buddy just recently got his braces off, and is into his retainer (I'm jealous! Going on 4 years with my braces this November... Took him 2 years) and says that he no longer has any pain in his jaw joints, and his teeth look better than some supermodel's teeth!
Basic jist of it -- it'll suck for a while, but in the long run, a few months of pain / hardship is better than the rest of your life, which could very likely be 75 - 80 years...

Hmm, I have a slight overbite too... though I haven't gotten any of these symtoms yet (hopefully I won't  ).
