Pirates vs Ninjas, maybe, but Vikings are different, since they have multiple stereotypes. Do you go with Norse worriers or Guitar-playing Metal gods?
Further proof:
1v1, Pirate vs Viking in unarmed combat. Vikings would win, because they're bigger and manlier.

Hand to hand with out without weapons? Without weapons Vikings with, because:
- They're much better armored
- They can take a lot more hits.
With weapons, I'd stay put money on the Viking, Since Battle Axes > Katanas, and any kind of Attack the Viking dishes the Ninja will be unable to block.

Do you jack off to pictures of big, burly, hairy vikings? You seem to be in love with them. "OMG, SUM1 SED VIKINGZ WUD LOZE. HOW DARE TEHY?!?!?!?!?!"
See, here's your flaw with defending vikings: you keep changing your viking whenever a new opposition is brought up. A pirate carries both a cutlass and a pistol. A viking would have a spear, bow, or axe. Not a combination of a bow and an axe or spear. Some vikings may have a sword, but only the most wealthy.
Choose what your viking is. Does he carry a shield with an axe, spear, bow, or sword? You can't change him for the sake of the argument.
If your viking has a bow, in short range combat, he'd most certainly be killed by a pirate or ninja. He probably would lose if it was long-range, as well, since his accuracy would probably be poor, unless he was an excellent marksman, then he would most definitely kill a pirate and a ninja. He'd have to be damn good to hit a pirate or ninja on the run not being slowed down by any armor or shielding.
If your viking has a spear, he might have a better chance in short range combat, as the spear would probably be quite long. However, he'd still probably lose if the ninja or pirate was able to take their swords to the spear and sever the point, leaving a blunt stick. Long (medium) range, he'd probably lose again, unless he was excellent in accuracy. Once he throws the spear, he has nothing to use on the offensive if the pirate and ninja are not hit by the throw.
If your viking has an axe, he stands even better of a chance in short range combat. Though, with the weight of the shield and axe, he'd be a lot more sluggish than the ninja or pirate. Though, if he managed to catch flesh with his axe, there's no doubt that the pirate and ninja would go down. There is no long range capabilities for this weapon.
If your viking has a sword, he probably stands the best chance. Though the pirate and ninja depend on their swords for most of their fighting, if the viking is any good with his sword-fighting, he'll be quite the match for both the pirate and ninja. Again, long range is not applicable with the sword.
Note: I did this without the pirate using his pistol. The pistol is a fairly short-range weapon, so a pirate using that and being accurate would take the viking down no matter what weapon he uses for short-range combat.
whoa.

That's my point though. Pirates are Cutlass and pistol exclusive. Vikings have used (Over the years):
- Swords
- Shields
- Spears
- Bows
- Axes
- Guitars
Whatever a Pirate or Ninja can dish out, A Viking can easily counter using one of the above. As for not being able to use more than one, I point to Baleog the Fierce from The Lost Vikings, who carries both a sword and a bow.

You miss my point completely. If a viking encounters a pirate, he's not going to have a whole arsenal of weapons. He's just going to have one and a shield. Stop with the bullshit. Vikings fail and that's all there is to it. They got conquered. They can't possibily be that invincible.

Now, while they may not carry all of those weapons, certainly a bow and a sword is feasible, if not probable.
So, Pirate, armed with Cutlass and pistol going against a Viking armed with a sword and bow. I could add the shield in and also have it be realistic, but that's overkill.
~ Cutlass vs Sword, sword wins, since the heavy blows from the Viking are likely to break the cutlass under their weight.
~ Pistol vs Sword, because pistols are fairly short-ranged and innaccurate, several things can happen:
- The pistol misses, while the pirate attempts to reload he gets his head choped off.
- The pistol hits, but it doesn't kill. In a reload attempt the pirate gets his head chopped off.
- The pistol misses, the pirate abandons reloading it and grabs his cutlass. See above.
- The pistol hits, but it doesn't kill. The pirate abandons reloading it and grabs his cutlass. Because the Viking is wounded, he stands a better chance now.
- The pistol hits and kills the Viking in one shot. This is unlikely because of the quality of pistols back then, but it's still a possibility.
~ Pistol vs Bow, The Viking would likely win because he can reload faster, and his bow would be more accurate. In an earlier comment, you said that only an excelant marksmen would do well with a bow, but you also said that Vikings are barbarians, and all they know is war. If that's true, than the Viking wouldn't have the bow in the first place unless he was an excelant marksman.
~ Cutlass vs Bow, several things can happen:
- The pirate gets two arrows in the chest before he can get in range for his cutlass and dies.
- The pirate gets hit, but doesn't die. The Viking keeps trying to poke holes in the pirate with arrows and ends up getting a cutlass in his gut.
- The pirate gets hit, but doesn't die. The Viking grabs his sword and takes an easy victory, since the Pirate is wounded and the Viking would have won anyway (See above).
- The pirate doesn't get hit at all. The Viking grabs his sword and kills the pirate (see above).
- The Pirate doesn't get hit at all. The Viking keeps trying to poke holes in the pirate with arrows and ends up getting a cutlass in his gut.
Obviously, unless the Viking does something blaringly stupid (Which he won't, since he's a barbarian and all he knows is war), The Viking wins. The average Viking is stronger, faster, or agile, and able to take more hits than the average Pirate.
Yeah, Vikings aren't action movie hero rambos, but they're as close as humans have ever gotten.

You refuse to look at things from a realistic POV don't you? I'm talking about how each weapon would fare if used in the way they were used typically. Plus, your vision of vikings is false. They aren't as big, strong, and powerful as you'd like to imagine they were. They're not these invincible barbarians. They are humans. Some bigger than others. Some stronger than others. They weren't these body building warriors. They were just regular conquering people. They just happened to be one of the most successful and have this image of uncleanliness thanks to the Christians of that time giving off the big, bad, hairy vikings.
Militaries of that time didn't win simply because of brute strength and numbers. A lot had to do with tactics. You said yourself that they invented flanking. They didn't have to be brutefull if they were tactical.
Pirate cutlass vs. viking sword:
http://www1.kamakuranet.ne.jp/sankaido/parts/photo/pirate%20 cutlass.jpg
http://www.silvermane.com/overstock/BK-YK133%20Viking%20Swor d.jpg
The viking sword is longer and a little wider, but the viking isn't necessarily going to be this big burly guy capable of crushing the skull of any man with his hands.
Also, pirate cutlasses were made of more refined and strong metals. They could easily withstand the blow from the viking sword.
Pirate pistol vs. viking sword:
Now, if the pistol hits and kills the viking. That's all said and done. If the pistol misses its mark or doesn't kill the viking, it's right back to cutlass vs. sword, since the pirate will usually have both out in his hands.
Pistol vs. bow:
Realistically, hand-to-hand combat with a viking bow is very unlikely, as the archer would have to stay in place to be able to fire accurately, but if you have a charging pirate coming after you, then you can't exactly stand in place. Plus, a running pirate shooting his pistol is more accurate than a running viking shooting his bow. Instead, he'd use his sword... thus bringing us back (yet again) to the cutlass vs. sword argument.
For the archer to be effective, he would have to be out of the pirate's range of attack. Thus rendering any argument useless.
Cutlass vs. bow:
Again, for the archer to be effective, he would have to be out of the pirate's range of attack.
If the pirate gets too close, he has no option but to take out his sword (if he happens to carry one) and fight the pirate cutlass vs. sword (yet again). If he kept trying to use his bow, he'd have a hard time trying to grab an arrow, get it ready for firing, and firing the bow while the pirate is slicing viking flesh like it was nothing.
whoa.
