I thought up the idea of a mod for people who are religo-nutsoid some days ago. It goes where Nod and GDI don't actually shoot eachother. They can go and sit down in like the GDI barracks and just type to eachother. No punching, no shooting, least of all NO SWEARING. They can go on tour rides in APCs and perhaps even share humvees and buggies together. They could maybe walk down the beach on islands and get a cool tan. I mean seriously WOULDN'T IT BE SO MUCH FUN?! Who needs violence in video games? (physical/verbal) WE CAN ALL JUST MOSEY ALONG AND HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME HOLDING HANDS. Because VIOLENCE people is BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD. I think every no-swearing server should put this mod in and it will bring peace.

and spoony you know i wont do that so why even say it. i barely ever play on public servers, but i know id play more if the rules werent so stupid. why is keeping swearing to the minimum such a high priority and stopping team hampering and all that shit not?

it makes no sense. i fully understand that there are people who pay for these servers and are entitled to their own rules, but why should that mean that we should just simply follow their stupidity? im sure no one would have a problem in changing their servers in order to make the community happier & just basically.. better. people dont host their own servers just for themselves. they also do it because they feel it would make the community happier (or well thats how i would feel).

we dont have to ask them to change everything in an offensive way like syaing "K UR GAY, UR RULES R GAY CHANGED THEM CUZ UR GAY" -- there can easily be a mature way of changing everything.

and if u think that the way things now r fine then well, i think u should read de7's post cuz he's made a very valid point.

^-- I agree with both of them. The rules should not be excessively strict, as this is a Teen-rated game with a disclaimer of "Experience may change during online play". However, certain words/phrases indeed go over the line, and those who use them deserve to be warned/(q)kicked/banned for a day.

While obviously people who pay for servers are under no obligation to anyone, I've always failed to see how preventing me from saying "shit" really improves anyone's experience. I also hate the servers where some tard and I will start flaming each other and the mods get mad and threaten to ban us both. Fuck. I enjoy fighting with idiots while I play Renegade. To me that's fun. And it's pretty annoying when some self-righteous 15-year-old moderator gets a boner from kicking you for "OMF BE NIEC LOL".

Scope, you already posted this about a month ago. Do you really have nothing else to talk about?

Yes, it's stupid, but what can you do? People with rules like that have their heads up their asses. Take the UNRULES server, for example.

So, what can you do? You do everything in your power to get banned, just in case you have a craving to play at stupid servers like that, and then you laugh about it behind their backs.

It's so gay how so many of you are fine with this. I can't believe you'd rather leave things as they are. All you need is a bunch of people complaining to the server owners and things will change

For the record, as you can see that I don't filter swearing (only racism) here, I carry that same rule in my server (n00bstories). Swearing is allowed, racist insults are not. There are a few other servers like that. My advice to you is to find the servers that allow it and play on them.

I know that children WILL hear all the colorful swear words well before they're old enough to use them. It's good parenting that wins in the end, not trying to shield your children from the horrors of words.

I hate the motherfuckers who don't have enough self-control to NOT do a simple action like click onto a server that has strict language rules. All they accomplish is making the moderators even more convinced that they banned a blithering moron.

When I join a game, I don't see it as a place to exercise my right to free speech. I go around killing the other team and blowing up buildings. I use the chat only when I need to, like when a fully-loaded APC comes barrelling over the bridge on City_Flying or a stank tries to hide behind a building. Chatting is only 10-15% of the game, but when people are denied 10 words out of over a million in the English language they treat it more seriously than it deserves. Even if I didn't agree with the rules (ex. banning for "hell" or "damn" or something mild), getting myself banned ultimately equals 1 less server to play on.

In short, it's leave or shut up.

Swearing is one thing, holding a long drawn out argument that spams chat is quite another. If i had a nickle for every time I had missed an important teamchat message because of some idiots spamming away in their arguments, I would have quite a few rolls of nickles.

My opinion is the same as everyone elas I like to think, if not then there is something wrong with you.

Being racist is not acceptable anywhere anytime.

Verbal abuse against someone is also not socially acceptable.

You should always honour an mother, to make a joke against someones mother is to make a joke against yours, if you have no respect for theirs, then you dont respect yours.

Failing to comply with these three simple things, will lead to you getting fucked over.

Other then that am happy with people swearing, aslong you dont over do it, there are standards.

In my opinion, one shouldn't be kicked for swearing in a violent video game.

Renegade is a violent video game, as you constantly kill & destroy people and buildings or vehicles, and well, according to the law killing is a much greater offence than swearing. If I was to get mad while playing Renegade, it'd be because somebody killed me, not because someone swore at me. If you can virtually kill someone, why can't you virtually swear at someone? And not only that, most Internet games are rated T for Teen, right? If you were to have a certain rule in your server (like if you swear you get kicked) because there's a chance that a little kid is playing the game, well, that isn't your responsibility. An 8 year old technically isn't even allowed to play the game so it's safe to assume that everybody in your server is okay with swearing. Anyways, let's face it, swearing is part of every teen's vocabulary, and this community is made up of teens for the most part.

So, what do you guys think? Should you be able to virtually kill and virtually swear, or virtually kill and not virtually swear?

@SpyGuy: It's not quite as simple as that. I'm banned from a fair portion of the big Renegade communities. Any time I want to play Renegade there are really only 4 or 5 decent sized servers I can join. If I start not joining servers with language policies (what, 90% of them?) then I'd barely be able to play Renegade at all.

@DreamWraith: I think you can change the number of lines displayed at a time in the registry. By the way, I also realize how unsatisfied you will be with this reply.
