I've been an ati person for a while now. I'd be pissed to see them owned by such a shit company.

Did you say that amd is a shit company???

amd processors can beat intell anyday. not to mention that every intell computer i have had is very slow and cannot multitask very well. i have been building amd computers for a cuple of years now and everyone that has had one has had no problems and say it is faster than there old (*broken*) pentium 4 computers. none of them have complained about it breaking.

I'm guessing you weren't checking Intel's latest processors? Intel's Core 2 technology just sweeped the floor with AMD. I don't know what you're talking about.

Who cares? That doesn't make AMD a "shit company".

considering AMD is outright BUYING ATI, i would assume it would be called AMD.

Doubtful. ATI will most likely keep its name just because it's so well known in the industry.

That'd be like Dell getting rid of the Alienware name when they bought them. Or HP getting rid of the Compaq name.

Did you see the benchmarks by hard OCP in gaming? If 2fps is SWEEPING then yes the Core 2 Duo swept the AMD FX.

http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTEwOCwxLCxoZ W50aHVzaWFzdA==

The average fps ratings on most of them were within .5 of each other.

Actually, my post was made in sarcastic tone, because I already knew the answer.

I read the press release, and related information.

Two things:
One: I've been an Intel user all my life, three PCs, three intel processors. When we get the fourth (shortly) it will be an Intel Dual core 64 bit Smile

Due to the varied things I use my PC for, I need the floating point capability (pfft, spelling error) of an Intel processor. AMD can't do floating point as quick as Intel, infact, they suck at it.

Two: The original graphics card in my current machine was Nvidea. I couldn't even adjust the settings. When i bought SWBFII (Star Wars, BattleFront II) I needed a better graphics card. finding a Radeon 9550 for about £70 I thought, "ok, let's give this a shot". It installed perfectly, runs perfectly, and Renguard/Renegade take longer to load than my driver utlilty. So that solved that.

Also, I think this may be teh ownage, but I'm not sure.

And: Crossfire FTW!!! (ooh, two X1900's on AFR rendering on ren, 200, 300 FPS?)

Renguard is a wonderful initiative

ATI has a bad history of lame drivers. And the lastest series of Nvidia cards smoke the lastest series of ATI cards.

I'm surprised you can post here from all the way back in 2001.

They still have a bad history of lame drivers to this day. I know so many people who still have to hassle with the newest ATI drivers all the time. They have improved quite a bit from how bad they used to be, but never-the-less it is still somewhat bad.

You're incorrect, for the past 8 months nVidia have had worse drivers than ATi. In the past 2 years there have been major issues regarding nVidia and cheating in benchmarks. ATi also have faster performance results in benchmarks and practically every major game out today when using Crossfire technology. ATi also has much better filtering power, and anti-aliasing (including adapative AI and transparent AI) at high-resolutions. In the software developer market, ATi drivers are considered by far the easier to work with when programming when utilizing vertex shaders.

Just so you know, I'm a professional games developer and I use both nVidia and ATi hardware setups in my overclocked gaming rigs.

TG Daily

And then, of course, there is still the question what this new company will be called, when the acquisition will close as planned in the fourth quarter of this year. Wolford said that the deal still has to pass various steps, such as stockholder approval, and that more information on the branding will become available over the next months. At least for now, "the company" will act under the name of AMD, Wolford said.
