Quote:

but I have yet to hear or read another program go one on one against Zone Alarm (as far as firewall tests) and beat it...and that's the free version mind you.

Can ZoneAlarm:
  • Detect when one program attempts to use another program to access the internet
  • Detect that a program has changed since it was allowed access (i.e. been patched)

Yes to both...

For example:

When Surf Anonymous is running and irc or other programs are going through it, it says mirc is trying to access through surf anonymous...allow or deny..I even get warnings that directcd is trying to access the internet through surf anonymous as well when I have it enabled for web proxies through IE.

And when mirc is updated like I did last week, gayspy, TS, and yahoo...all that I've updated in the last two weeks...all notified me that the program had changed and if I should re-allow or deny.

Plus it secures mail ports to just my specific mail programs so at least no smtp whore bot will send out anonymous mass emails...it has to be a virus in Outlook that beat everything else to get inside...

I call Bullshit. Personally I prefer F-Secure, but I run AVG (and BitDefender) because F-Secure costs.

F-Secure Awards: http://www.f-secure.co.uk/f-secure/awards/
Anti=Spyware roundup: http://www.infoworld.com/article/05/09/19/38FEspy_1.html

This did prove my point very well though...notice F-Secure won an award, Feb, Apr and Jun...what happened to Jan, Mar, and May?

#1 - it's one magizine...k
#2 - depends on the day it was tested and the virus' released
#3 - depends on the frequency of the updates

Run these tests every single day, and no one company is the champ, except the top vendors that can afford to have people staring at screens 24/7 waiting to write new definitions or find the lastest code to beat...

Doesn't really matter...

Plus its spyware test didn't seem to run Nortons, Zone Alarms, Adaware, Windows Defender Beta...

Those are some pretty big names to drop out of a list...

Again...it doesn't really matter for anti virus...free is great, more updates is great, a bundled solution is great...mix and match and it's great...but virus's are least of ANY computer users worries...it is important, but just about at the bottom of your pucker factor list...just do have something...but worry about a firewall with program control first...

Well I did post the link for BlackIce Pc Protection and Server protection, but it looks like someone deleted it.

Whoever deleted it you could have sent me a PM saying what you did Razz.

If you want BlackIce goto there homepage they have them both on there.

Ha, I thought you said go to your homepage. So, a quick search of google catholic-caveman.blogspot.com, I will need more time to review this. a title like The Lair of the Catholic Cavemen, with the Marx Bros. and hot girls it must be good.

I'll give you the best combination, Nod32 and ZoneAlarm Pro, and, if you know what your doing, they can both be free Wink

Well, there's this thing called piracy. It magically turns software that cost the consumer money to obtain to software that cost the consumer only bandwidth to obtain.

whoa.

You either use the extremely complicated reverse engineering method, or the very easy and entertaining advanced searching method. You only need to find the persons who have already reversed it. It's best to know the file name such as si40.zip (softice).

Blasphemy, I think you may be taking the freedom of speech a little to far.
I think Ethereal or wild packets and sygate to be more than sufficient security. The only program that I have caught breaking out was windows, and I had to open the gate for that shit to return control of my OS.
Really cool to see the win genuine adv slipped into an update. So, anytime I tinker with my PC (pull a sound card out) It freaks out like I stole the shit. I used to think MS got a bad wrap. People acted like they were crooks and I never understood why. Now I think I'm starting to see.
I think the biggest security threat this year was in week 2 of January. The media player exploit that Microsoft didn't have a fix for. Yeah right. A Russian programmer Ilfak Guilfanov, author of IDA (very powerful disassembler) who released a patch told Leo Laporte that it was a design feature in windows. There own personal door to any system running Windows. Hmm How the hell did I get here?
