EDIT: For those of you who are involved in BETA Testing this application...there have been some changes. I have released v1.4 BETA a day early, (I finished early to my own amazement). Here is another screen shot of the newest build:

(Also, you should already know where to find out how to get the newer versions off my forums)

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/2712/ss1uy.jpg

I have been developing an application for the past few weeks now to use on my home network. It's basically a VERY BASIC web browser with a few frills here and there to my liking. I have been mainly developing it so I can manage my network settings easier without having all the frills of a real web browser. (IE. going into my routers configuration, my web servers configuration, ect via easily placed buttons).

Being in it's early stages of developement though, I have yet to implement any of the above except for the basic web browser functions. You can use it just like any other web browser to browse the internet in its current state.

I am looking for BETA Testers who are interested in tested such an application so I can fix bugs I may not see but others might. (My entire family plans on using this application once it is in a worthy state)

If you are interested in testing this application, please contact me at deadfive@msn.com or sign up here: http://dcmp.1.forumer.com/index.php?act=ST&f=9&t=16

Here are some other links as well:
Progress Log: http://dcmp.1.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=14
Application Info: http://dcmp.1.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=12
Feature Request/Comments: http://dcmp.1.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=13

Another reason I am looking for BETA Testers is because I developed this using the .Net Framework 2.0 which provides alot more flexibility than the previous versions of .Net in conjunction with the newest version of the C++ Programming language.

EDIT: For all the users that signed up for BETA Testing, I have updated the sign up post with direct download links to the BETA Installers. Please make sure you do read the post before downloading.

Here is a screenshot of the actual application for those of you who are curious.

I can't, I'm scared.
But I would suggest attaching the gnu license agreement to it. If it is a free open source program.

Currently it is not an open source application due to it being in such early stages of development. However, it does have a few liscense agreements already attached to it.

Even though the application has the capabilities of a web browser such as FireFox, (Atleast I mean limited to browsing web sites), that is not at all this applications purpose. I just have not got around to implementing the actual features that are intended into the application. I am releasing this BETA version though, because it is in a worthy state to be tested. And as said in the main post, other people that test this application may find bugs/glitches/errors that I fail to see, in which BETA Testers are useful to a developer.

Alot of people have asked me so far though, what do they get out of testing my application? The only answer I can give that question so far is I can put your name under the Special Thanks section in the credits. By all means, you have every right to say "Yes I will test it." or "No, I refuse."

I'll try it if it goes Open.

Paranoid as I am I don't like anything Beta that isn't mass-released, especially if it wants to touch my internet.

If you are pointing out that my application needs exception handling, it has been implemented in v1.4, which is not being released until Monday. Aside from that, I would not download a program to handle my exceptions for me when I do it myself.

Easy big fella. I just thought it was interesting. I don't get into API calls and such.

I did not mean to come off agressive in any way...sorry if I came off that way. Anyway, it is an interesting tool. I personally would recommend it to begginner programmers.

I am going under the assumption this is using the WebBrowser control from .Net 2.0 for your actual html rendering?

Just make sure you let people know that it is IE rendering the pages, not you, could cause some confusing when people complain that "x page doesn't render properly".

Looks decent, although i really can't tell what the application is supposed to do right away, maybe post a feature list? That might help alleviate some of the confusion.

Also, for a beta release, maybe you should try running it through the click-once install in .Net 2.0. This would allow you to push updates out to the beta testers easier, as well as letting them run in a sandbox mode to alleviate the "new unknown developer" issues that go along with releasing applications to game forums. (lots of people here especially have been effected by people stealing cd-keys with supposed programs).

Looks decent thus far, although i am still puzzled why you recommend only putting one website on your computer Razz My development box at work has 17 different websites all with header specific catching on port 80.

Anyway, good luck with the application, and remember, anyone who downloads this, already has the source, unless you used unmanaged c++ in VS2k5.

Thumbs Up

Yeah, it is the webBrowser control from the .NET Framework 2.0. (The IE engine).

I recommend only 1 website server per computer. I have a couple friends who run both Abyss Web Server X1 and Apaches HTTP server, and from what they said they can interfere with one another. I am not certain if this is correct or not, but I still recommend only one web server just in case.

Can you PM me or email me and explain what you mean by they already have the source? I know the application can be reverse engineered, but other than that I didn't know the source was vulnerable. If you could just PM or email me explaining it would be much appreciated.

I have a features list on my forums. I do, however, need to update it, because some of the features have changed and some have been removed during the development process. Mostly because during devlopment I find things that would make it better and remove things that are not needed. But to sum it all up, it is basically a basic web browser made specifically for web developers. There are still numerous features that I don't want the public to know yet, that have not been implemented into the application and will not be implemented until much later versions of the application.

As for Click-Once deployment, I havn't looked much into yet. Now maybe I think I will.

Thanks for all the positive feedback by the way, very kind of you.
