I just saw this movie. Scared me into a coma. The only movie that's ever scared me in any way. HIGHLY recommend it.
As far as the plot:
The back of the DVD cover | Its name:Event Horizon. The high-tech, pioneering research spacecraft mysteriously vanished without a trace, on its maiden voyage seven years earlier. But a weak, persistant signal from the long-missing craft prompts a rescue team...
|
Oddly enough, there aren't any aliens in this movie. Yay!
Oh, and the cast is good. Laurence Fishburne from the Matrix and Sam Neil from Jurassic Park are in it. Buncha others.
If you don't plan on watching it, here's the spoilers and crap.

Eh...the ships were cool. Can't say I found the movie as a whole all that impressive, but hey- that's just me.

You pretty much blew up my cheap excuse of a spoiler-tag. Meh.
Oh, yeah. I don't get to see hardly any movies these days. Since he let me see this, I wonder if he'd let me see Starship Troopers? I loved the animated series. Bugs cutting people in half on Kids WB! Lol, nostalgia...
PS: Uh, IWarriors? Toggle SpoilerThe movie had people sodomizing each other while slitting their partner's wrists, people reaching down their mouths and ripping out their intestines, and people being blown out airlocks and being 'depressurized.' Sounds gory to me.

Ah starship troopers was awesome, my family hated it when we went to see it, but I think it was great, the cartoons was crazy, used to watch them all even at my age.
You must be young.

If you want Starship Troopers, read the book, don't watch the movie. Don't even think about watching the second movie. The way Hollywood butchered Heinlein's work is fucking disgusting.

I saw only a few minutes of Starship Troopers the movie. I had to change the channel. It was the first time I ever saw... you know... those.

They made a third one of those fucking things? As if the feature film wasn't bad enough, as if the shitty made-for-tv sequel didn't suck badly enough, are you seriously telling me someone went and made another one?
OOoooh, the pain...

I personally liked the animated series better than what little I had seen of the movie. I hear the game was awesome.
PS: A friend tells me that in the game "F.E.A.R.," there are magazines strewn all over the levels. One of them had a cover that read, "EVENT HORIZON FOUND."

For the sorry individuals who haven't read the book, a few quick pointers:
-Mobile Infantry troops wear power armor with jump-jets.
-Mobile Infantry deploy from orbit using drop pods.
-The Rodger Young does not get destroyed.
-Johnny's dad does not die, he enlists and fights after his wife is killed. He is still alive at the end, and has a conversation with his son in the final scene.
-Dizzy is a man. Johnny and Dizzy never hook up.
-The Bugs have technology. Ships and weapons and such... not just claws and jaws and plasma farts.
-Johnny does not enlist because he wanted to impress Carmen. They weren't nearly that close. She is in the book, and she is the helmsman of the Rodger Young, but she is hardly a main character. He enlists because he really does want to be a citizen, and feels it is his responsibility to serve to earn that status.
There's a lot more, but those are the ones I remember from the last time I read the book. This thread makes me want to go dig it out and read it again. Starship Troopers is required reading at every major military academy in the United States. Poor Robert A. must be rolling over in his grave. Such amazing things could be done with that book, and instead they choose to make it a guts'n'gore fest.
