So.. I've been trying to play ren for weeks now. When I double click on ren it takes me to the wwconfig window I make sure everything is fine then press ok, it takes me to the game, the screen goes black with the hourglass cursor for a few seconds then crashes back to the desktop. I don't know what's causing this.. I've tried reinstalling many times but still nothing.

Did you update your video card drivers lately? If not, maybe that could solve it. If yes, maybe reinstall the ancient drivers which didn't give the problem?
