I left GDE. I wasn't voted out of it. If you're going to try to throw something in my face, at least make sure it's true.
|
I'll take GDE's word for it over yours...

Ask Reckneya or D4rkFyre, I'm sure they remember the letter of resignation I left. Perhaps Coolair remembers as well.

Quite right, a resignation letter from Gbull was posted on the GDE forums.

Letter of resignation? WTF is this a job? Same as idiots "retiring"...lol...it's a game - you leave...
Hey - didn't President Nixon resign too!?!?!
|
It's a sign of respect if you give a reason as to why you're leaving/quitting. If you just up and leave, you're disrespecting the people you're leaving behind, and you cause unnecessary panic for whatever reason someone needed him. If I was leaving this community, I wouldn't say bye, but I also don't have a position of importance on the forums. If I was to leave my IRC network, I'd surely resign rather than disappear.
whoa.

Yes, because suddenly up and leaving when you're in a position of responsibility - in a game or otherwise - without any warning to let people get a replacement is the PERFECT way to not totally screw over a couple of friends.
Furthermore, the last sentance there is clearly a Reducto ad Nixonum ad homenem attack. Id est, you're attempting to discredit your opposition by comparing him to a villanized historical figure. Usually, said figure is Hitler and/or Nazis, but in this case it's Pres. Nixon.
And yes, I do know ancient Latin.

I know pig latin, big fucking deal...you feel smarter having told us?
My reference to Nixon is that Nixon resigned. Does it mean that Nixon felt it was time to go, life was good, he was just getting tired or that his ass was on the chopping block and it was better to run and save some face???
Translate that into ancient latin for 600 Alex...

It's pretty obvious that you're trying to compare the two; you could at least follow through on it instead of half-assing a dodge.
Yes, I do feel smarter. Not to mention that I'll again reinforce my ego by pointing out that your Jeopardy! analogy is flawed, as that isn't small enough to be a question category, nor would it be a very effective answer/question pairing.
And again, you're using ad homenem attacks, this time attempting to discredit me by focusing on my usage of Latin instead of attempting to disprove my claim that you're trying to compare two people to make one look bad.

|
We can take turns and lay em all out...
Let's play name that resignation.
Short of burned out press secretaries, name the just regular resignations from a political stand point.
I'll start ya...
Greenspan.
I bet I can name 9 to 1, more people pushed out of the White House in the last 25 years than you can name that simply wanted to go on...and again, that doesn't include press secretaries, they never last good or bad...
|
Sorry, but "everyone in history" doesn't include limiting itself to the whitehouse, not including press secretaries, or whatever.
Everyone in history means, EVERYONE in history.
If everyone in history that has resigned, has done so to save face because they were being fired, then you have a decent argument. If not, then your comparison is moot. Comparing one resignation to another of your choosing (ie. one that supports your argument, to the exclusion of all others) does nothing to bolster your position. Rather, it weakens it.

You're still a retard when you "resign" playing a game or being in a clan...say I'm leaving...then leave...I mean do you sign it? Do you give two weeks notice? Do you get a severance package like rights to the clan section for an extra month or 2 additional stars on your name for respect due to service to the clan? Does anything change or anyone care? Does it mean you are no longer reachable or does it mean you pulled three stupid letters of your game name? Kids and even you adults have no grip on reality...seriously...this is a game and since you have little to no grip on reality, or sadly enough this is your reality, you act like it matters...
Making/Keeping friends is one thing...thinking it's real life...!?!?!?!
|
It's sad when the idea of respect no longer means anything to someone. Either that, or the person has some serious maturity issues (age related, or not).
You state that you are leaving out of respect to those you have been with. It may simply be the internet, but that doesn't mean respect has to go out the window.
I'm quite amused by the idea that having respect for people you have dedicated your time to means you have lost your grip on reality. Just because this is the internet does not mean real people are on the other side of that user name. Oops, sorry. I guess if real people are involved, it must involve real life. My mistake, I had no idea such advanced AI existed!

I honestly can't add much to what Warranto and J_ball have said. This may be the Internet, but that doesn't mean that being a little bit polite will kill you.
Furthermore, I fail to see how I communicate with my friends should modify my amount of respect for them.
And for specific points:
"Point of the topic": A discussion changing topic!? Who would have thought of THAT?! Though looking back makes it seem like you're the one who drove it off topic in the first place... Something about feelings... and kicking things.
"Two weeks notice": If I'm an admin/webmaster/owner of hosting/whatever for a clan, then yes, I AM giving them notice before I quit and possibly stop paying bills or running servers.
"Severance package": Actually, many online communities DO continue to hold a lot of respect for former leaders who left under friendly terms. A respected leader isn't suddenly not respected because they got a promotion and now need more time for work, or a thousand other possible scenarios.
"Grip on reality/making friends": Yeah, because everyone KNOWS that the servers that we play on aren't real, the servers we host websites on aren't real, the money that pays for those servers is made from construction paper, and there's NO ONE behind those screennames.
"Resumes": Perhaps not, but "Webmaster for popular gaming site" wouldn't look so bad on a resume for an IT professional or a programmer...
"Bandwagons": I'm not jumping on you because of the bandwagon, either. You can stop with the insults and personal attacks whenever you want.
"He started it!": Let's assume that he had come in and just started up with the insults as you had. This gives you license to do the same... why? Additionally, I fail to see how his behavior justifies yours, when you could have calmly debunked his argument or lack thereof instead of going off like a firebomb.
Though looking back through the topic, I see one insult from gbull, quickly followed by an essay full of them from yourself.

I admit that my first insult was somewhat rash and unfair. I apologize for it.

Quite honestly, I feel this would have come much sooner had Dogg actually asked for an apology instead of flipping out.
