I think its hilarious that everyone was talking about how they pay for their servers out of pocket, and script kiddies are lower than life. Then when it happends to anyone else its the woot train.

The difference is that in this case, only time was lost, not money. In a gameserver's case, you're losing money if you're not getting any players. In TV's case, you're losing money if you're not getting any viewers. I daresay that that dodgy move by some people had actually increased TV viewage for a while.

Im sure the FCC fine they got for that was drastically more than a gamespy server loss. It doesn't matter if they weren't the cause of it, they are responsible for every broadcast they make.

Because they used an expliot to do those changes, same range of crap.
They get fined everytime a streaker runs past the camera. Its even bigger if they ackowledge it.

If by exploit you mean the person reviewing the submissions wasn't doing his job, then yeah you're right. This has absolutely nothing to do with script kiddies, hacking, etc. How is trying to close down a server by attacking it with whatever program the same as submitting funny/stupid fake company closings to a news channel website?

Wait, a streaker, lol? Yeah, because we all know how having "h4x0r3d Computer Services inc.", "PWNT Industries", or even "Cecil's Cockring Emporium" at the bottom of screen for a few seconds, are anywhere comparable at all to a naked person running across the camera.

A naked person running across the camera is obscene.
"h4x0r3d Computer Services inc.", "PWNT Industries", or even "Cecil's Cockring Emporium" running across the television isn't obscene. It's funny. If it were "you're a cunt" or something similar, then it would be obscene. Although, the 'cockring emporium' does come pretty close to being obscene.
Fact is, there's not a lot that the station can do about some naked guy running across the camera -- save for intentionally distorting it, which can be rather hard on live TV. A ticker on the bottom of your screen, though, can very easily be manually filtered.

It doesnt matter what degree it was, it wasnt pre-approved by the broadcasting head of the department. The same group of guys that approved the original entries no doubt.
Just because 99% of people wouldnt find it offensive, doesnt matter. They must maintain all systems and be incharge of every single thing that they broadcast.
So no manner of "oh it didnt count" or "i dont find that offensive" will change it. It wasnt approved for broadcast.
