If RenGuard doesn't seem load up at all when you click the Renegade icon, then there's likely only one of three things occuring: RenGuard is not installed , or you have RenGuard set to auto-launch Renegade, or your Renegade icon is pointing to "game2.exe" rather than "game.exe" or "Renegade.exe".
Right-click on your Renegade icon, and select "Properties". This will bring up a window. Make sure that the program it's pointing to is either "Renegade.exe" or "game.exe", both of which must be in your Renegade directory (by default, it's "C:\Westwood\Renegade" for pre-The First Decade). Either program will work, as long as it's not pointing to "game2.exe".
Double-click your Renegade icon. Then once Renegade has loaded, alt-tab out and look for an icon in your your system tray marked with the Renegade 'R' named "RenGuard" (all the icons in the bottom right of your screen). On Windows XP, you may have to maximize your systray.
If the icon is there, then RenGuard is loaded. Click the icon to bring up RenGuard. You'll see some messages. If the icon isn't there, then RenGuard isn't loaded, and is thusly not installed. You'll need to reinstall RenGuard if that's the case.
