I looked at a few of the threads here talking about issues with TFD and Renguard, I followed the instructions using the manual patch, changing the directory name then using the automated installer, changing the directory that the installer installs to, and it all ended up crashing I uninstall Renegade from TFD now the menu's are scrwed up, no text on the menu's and I can't play renegade anymore...

I'm not sure how the agreements and such work inside EA, but they do seem a lot more open to other anti-cheat software, such as PunkBuster. BattleField 1942 has it as an optional install, and I don't even recall being asked if I want to install PunkBuster for Battlefield 2, though it's fairly clearly disable-able in the client.

Olaf, we're working on it. More specifically, I'm working on it, since it seems that I'm the only one that's working on the new RenGuard back-end stuff during the recent months. That's on top of what little social life I have, on top of the schooling I'm doing, on top of the clan stuff I do, and on top of my chores. Rewriting the whole of the back-end network takes time.
One might ask "Why re-write the back-end rather than just fix the issue you've mentioned?" Well, for starters, there are workarounds for the woldata.key issue -- v00d00's CD key utility being one of them. However, there are no workarounds for RenGuard 1.03's Windows 2000 or Windows 64-bit Edition problems. There are no workarounds for RenGuard 1.03's massive memory hemorrhaging, especially if you've got optional commandline stuff such as "/multi" passed to it. RenGuard 1.03 has some major issues that 1.04 already should and does solve -- but for 1.04 to be completely ready, we need the new back-end since there's a few issues and bypasses that 1.04 solves which requires it. The current back-end isn't very stable and in fact seemed to get less stable as we (mac) added 1.04-necessary features. Thus, it was time for a rewrite.
I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way. I've had a bad day and am holding a lot of bitter comments back. But at least we're trying to fix these issues, even if it's not in a timely manner.

I always thought that the RG 1.03 client had sprung a memory leak, but THAT bad? ROFL....that's why you folks ought to be using the STL...Resource Aquisition is Initialization (RAII) > resource leaks

Been playing Renegade [TFD] with no major problems unitl I installed Renguard today. Renegade opens up fine now, but with no text on the front page menu. I cannot proceed any further into the game because of this. I don't think there's any way anyone could deny that Renguard is causing this problem. Any suggestions?
Edit: Just removed Renguard from my PC and the text is back on the menus and everything is working normally.

Ea won't bother about RenGuard, because it's related to Renegade. Why do you think we are on XWIS? (Not meaning to offend, they do a good job)
If the don't care, they may as well give BHS the source-code, let BHS patch it to the core of the game, creating a "Renegade version 1.04" which means any cheaters still on 1.037 get version-mismatch errors.
I hope EA read that.
Renguard is a wonderful initiative

Renguard has been around for a while and has earned a good reputation. Most people like it, most people have no problems with it. It deserves a try at leaste.
Renguard lets you do extra on Brenbot servers. The core patches are also wonderful.
I just feel sorry for those who put their hate toward Renguard. Renguard has been blamed for alot of things, some true and some not. Some of the things Renguard gets blamed for is funny, and so is alot of the reasons for why certain people don't use it. It's their loss though, not everybody can be smart. Us Renguard user's are smart, the people who don't use Renguard because it "lags their computer" however arn't.
Those people almost bother me as much as illiterates, illiterates when it come to the computer, Renguard or Renegade. When people ask newbie questions I flip out on them. Warning in advance.
Anyway, just give Renguard a chance and try it. Don't abandon the idea because that's foolish. Just try it and if you don't like it or have a problem get rid of it.
Renguard can't be used on Windows 2000 or the 64 bit edition of Windows XP like danpaul said. Some people using the First Decade have a few problems. Also people sometimes have a problem downloading and installing the CorePatch through the Renguard Client, but the reason they have to post here or do nothing(the ones too stupid to know what to do, as in come here) is because they did not read the fine print in the Renguard window. Ignorance is one of the biggest things that drives people here asking for Renguard help. And there is nothing I hate more than ignorance.................... anyways .....
Well that was mostly all the problems that are common, there is a very tiny chance that something will happen for an unexplained reason.
So give Renguard a try, you got nothing to lose. You most likely wont have a problem.
