Stange Renegade problem! I need help! [message #195299]

Hi, whenever I start RenGuard and hit Renegade to play, the RenConfig thing popps up I hit "Okay" RenGuard pops back up, I hit Renegade to play, and the Config pops up again! Does anyone know why this happens?! (I've aslo tried going under game2.exe and still the same problem.)

Please help! Thanks In Advance for any help!

You already made this topic elsewhere. It seems like a problem with a driver (maybe graphics or sound card) or with the gfx/sound card itself. Reinstalling Windows may do the trick but it's a hassle Sad

So far, there were only two things that helped me to fix that>
1. Reinstall Windows
2. Get Latest Windows update Dont Get It

Or maybe try reinstalling some of the windows updates. Don't ask me about the getting latest update part, because I have ABSOLUTELY no clue why it made Renegade to work on my computer again(I had EXACTLY same problem as you)

When the error comes up, press on the text that displays your graphic card and then press okay.

Maybe you could go to Control Panel -> add or remove programs, then put the checkbox on the show updates, and then scroll down to the windows updates and remove some of them. Then go to windows update and install them again.
I don't know if this will help you, but you have nothing to lose if you try.

I would also re-install Windows but I don't have an XP CD my Dads cousin said he was allowed to install the CD on 4 computers for his work so, we didn't get the CD.

Edit: Also say I deleted Windows Update and went to the Windows web site and got the latest updates it would install the ones I removed correct?

I have an nVidia MX/MX 400 (believe me it works I've been playing Renegade with this card since 2003 and haven't have a problem until a week or two ago). Also I'm not to good with computers and have no clue on how to update my drivers. (To tell you the truth I don't even know what a driver is. I've heard the term hundred of times but never bothered to ask what it is, for fear of being called a newb.)

Well, first go the site of Nvidia. Then there should be enough information about updating your driver. Just go to the site and select the driver for your graphic card.

You could also try a No-CD patch, as there could be something wrong with the Game.exe.

when you go to install the latest updates, it should also install the updates that you removed.
I would really like to know how you have solved this(if you solve it), so that I will know what I should do if this happens to me again.

I have tried a No-CD patch but they could have been bad ones I'll try those and removing the updates and getting them again.

They do, they still support all their old cards. Download and run this: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_84.21.html

It will detect your card and install the correct drivers.

Up to you. Thats the usual disclaimer you get. Just about every piece of software available says "you agree not to hold us responsible if this screws your PC over" yet you install them anyway.

Drivers are more likely to improve your performance by making better use of your hardware, and I haven't had an issue with nVidia display drivers, and I highly doubt you will see any degredation at all. (But you should probably remove the old drivers before installing the new ones)

No problem. Go Into Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs and look for an entry called NVIDIA Drivers, or similar. (Depending on how old your drivers are, it may look different) then remove that.

Your PC should ask for a restart, and when you reboot your screen should look bad, then install the new drivers, and all should return to normal.

I just got the newest drivers they were just updated this year I guess except now my own monitor doesn't work and I've had to plug my other computers monitor it. Renegade still doesn't work!
