but the program itself is on the norton firewall 'allow' list, and i used to have trouble connecting to the server, which was fixed when i manually entered the server's ip and port #'s. does rg have either of those that i could use?

I'd suggest you disable core patch updates in the options and retry.
And yes, you can use +connect with Renguard's game.exe .

when i try to connet without core patches, the game freezes at the "joining game - abort" screen, no matter what server or whether or not the server is full, and i am forced to abort.
