Can it happen? Such as video card, agp slot or hell the motherboard in general...if so, how? What circumstances could it happen under? And what would be the odds?

Also, sorry if this doesn't really belong here, but it's a burning question I've got.

A monitor is an extremely high voltage device. If you could cause a feedback of just about any voltage higher than it needs on the monitor output socket you could easily damage your motherboard.

How does he shoot them after he shot himself in the head? Also, what causes him to snap in half?

If you watch closely, he pulls out a sword.

When you drop your monitor on a computer componet it could die.

Do you have a gambling problem? 1 in every 1,895,321.65 but I would still take the over. That is not much information to go on. Does the monitor, motherboard, the fan on the back of the PSU, does anything work. Hell, you may need to pay the electric company. What happened when "it" died?

I personally can't see the monitor shooting an unregulated amount of electricity back into the card. Unless you dumped bong water inside of it, while quickly stashing the evidence.

I was actually just wondering more than anything. I got kind of suspect that a monitor was grilling my boards...but it turns out to be one simple thing:

NASTY ASS PCCHIPS MOTHERBOARDS!

Simply put, these are vile boards that stand AT LEAST a 50% chance of being defective from Newegg. Or anywhere else. I don't know, since I only order from Newegg...

http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m851gv15.asp

STEER CLEAR OF ANY LOW END PCCHIPS MOTHERBOARDS. This is the fourth one I've had die or be defective/unstable for me. Sad thing is they actually are good performers...when they're alive. Although the BIOS was limited to say the least.

I'll be honest...I don't even know why I entertained the thought of it being the monitor. It wasn't the monitor on 1 or 2 to be certain...and was just stupid to think it was the cause of the last 2 I ordered back to back to die. Essentially, I was a tight wad...and it wound costing me more in the end. Lesson learned. This has got to be one of the stupidest things I have ever done...

One other thing is I do believe they're responsible for the death of 2 video cards as well. Which leads me to another question:

Can a motherboard kill an AGP video card??

Thanks for all your replies.

I've got way to much time on my hands

Yes
I was going to say all motherboards are manufactured in Taiwan. I don't know about that board. It looks like a POS, a small POS.
What voltage do you set the chip at?

WTF, 4 bad boards, chips, video cards, anything for that matter = RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY. Time to get a 64 bit compatible chip anyway.

based on this post you're not qualified to answer electrical engineering questions Wink

It COULD happen, but the chances are so low that I would be willing to stand in a bucket of salt water with the signal cable for a known-dead, known-sparky monitor dropped in as well. I've disassembled over 50 monitors as a part of my hobby, and I'm rather confident in the safety of the signal cable.

This is a valid point, if you were an idiot and poured water or some other conductive liquid into your monitor by some means, all bets are off and you belong on darwin awards.

Ew, PCCHIPS motherboards? those are like... trailer trash or something. I would rather use a Foxconn board, and that's saying a lot Smile
