Firstly, you can't get their names. But you can get the server name, wich is just as good.
Secondly, You might have paid one time for this game. But the hosts are paying every month an amount of cash for there servers that is alot more than Renegade is worth now. They have every right to want to be 100% secure about there not being any cheaters on there servers.
There are still some non RG servers, you just should look for these. I'm sorry RG doesn't work on windows 2000.
Size doesn't matter.

You can also join Half Renguard servers with no problems. The buffer Overrun has nothing to do with windows 2000. I run Windows XP and get the very same problem. I have just simply given up on running RG. Try playing in n00bstations or n00bless or n00bstories is still half renuardg I believe.

The buffer overrun might happen on windows XP but it always happens on Windows 2000
The best thing I can suggest is go to the hosts' website and if they have a forum (they likely will), explain your problem and mention that windows 2000 users cannot use renguard. Maybe the server owner will allow you on the server.
I don't think it's fair either that people cannot use renguard and hence can't play on quite a few of the servers on XWIS but a lot of the servers have renguard in that you'll only be made to use it if you get suspected of cheating...a healthy explanation on the server's forum is the best course of action to take..
Also, the kicks you keep receiving might be automated, not always somebody seeing you and kicking you.

The general rule of thumb on UN servers is that if a player is forcerg'ed by 3 players,then he must use renguard on that name
