what it should be is the more tuned you are to a mathematical way of thinking, the harder it is. (Which is why the games/simulation course is stated). If you have a different way of thinking that simply in mathematical terms, you will get it much easier. You may, in fact, be "smarter" than the doctor, but in terms different than how he thinks. Philosophical thinking (or at least the things surrounding that type of thinking), for example, is how I came across the answer that fast. I would never come close to the math ability of the doctor, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid; in any way.

The right way of describing this should have been "the more you know, the longer this should take"
Statistically, those who have more formulae and methods at their disposal will take longer as they explore, combine, and evaluate permutations of said formulae and methods.
On my personal list of comparisons possible, the correct method to use was third, so I got it on my third try guessing. This doesn't mean I don't know integrals or anything, it merely means I got lucky. Statistically your odds of getting this right would be around
1/(how many methods you have to try)

Not really, Chrono, because you know more doesn't mean it will take longer. You got lucky, but for me I started with the simplest methods and moved my way up, I got it quickly because of this. With the way I live, I solved this in a logical order. Applying my knowledge and ideas in this way does not make me any stupider than somebody who takes longer to figure it out.
I hope I made sense.

Lijitsu wrote on Thu, 08 December 2005 20:30 | The way I had it was:
#1 - Base Number
#2 - Add to #1
#3 - Subtract from new #1
#4 - Add to new #1
#5 - See '#3'.
If the total was an odd number, then you round it up.

I just tested that formula. It doesn't work.
My rolled numbers: 1, 3, 2, 4, 1
1+3=4
4-2=2
2+4=6
6-1=5
Rounded up, 5=6
The correct answer was 2.
Too much math. There is no formula; if you're doing something more than basic addition, you're doing too much (that's probably the best way I can say it without giving it away).
