I like renegade a lot. When the demo came out, I had to play it EVERY day for at least one hour. When I finally bought the full version, it got worse. I played it for about 2 years at least 2 hours a day. Then, the game started to lag more and more until it was no longer fun so I decided to re-install. However, that was a bad choice, and I ended up no being able to install the game any more. So, I reinstalled windows 98 and then the game finally installed. I started to play it again, but the lag did not improve(FPS kept getting worse), so I eventually stopped to play it completely.
Then, I bought new computer. It is only slightly faster than my old one, but it was enough to enable me to play play games like Far Cry(with all details set to minimal), Splinter Cell, AVP2(much better singleplayer game performance), and so on. So I decided that Renegade should be able to run on the computer. So I installed it and it did(I was finally able to view the videos between missions without chopping). So I played singleplayer for a while, and I realized that with this computer, I should get better FPS when playing on Internet, and I should be able to play the game just the way I want to(without lagging), and just the way I deserve.
So I installed Gamespy(maybe I will try WOL eventually because when I wanted to try it about a year ago, it did not work so I will try it now) and I installed Renguard, but... ...when I tried to join any server, the setup screen would just show up and the game would not continue, even when I tried to play singleplayer. So I decided to re-install, but the game would not install again and I was very unhappy and wanted to either cry, or kill someone(just kidding). but I had to move on....
So I moved to Counter Strike. This game is fun for a while but gets very repetitive and requires too much shooting skills(What I like(d) most about Renegade was/is that it does not require shooting skills: just aim and shoot at much as you want because the guns have no recoil and are accurate).
Then, eventually, I updated Windows XP using windows update and I decided to give Renegade one more shot. I inserted the first Renegade installation CD, and I prayed to god that it will work(I did not actually pray, but it was almost like praying). And... ...IT WORKED!!!!!!! I was so happy that I wanted to tune my home theater system to maximum volume and bass and play all CD's from Offspring all while dancing and shouting. I sort of thought that I have been give a second chance in life!! On the same day, I(I mean me and my brother) won 10 dollars (CAN) on 6/69 Lotto(Yes I know it is almost nothing but it is astill better than nothing).
I felt like one of the luckiest idiots(not a noob) in the world.
So after about 1 year of good gaming, 1 year of horrible lagging and 1 year of not playing, I am finally able to play this great game again, and the time with better FPS and slightly better graphics, just the way I deserve! Just the way I dreamed!
Thank you reading my very long rant, but I just had to post it. I really felt like sharing my experience with the the Renegade community.
THE END

The Reason why I bought my pc is because of Renegade
I'm glad you can play now, but I can't agree on what you said about aiming skill. I guess you haven't faced anyone good with a pistol yet.

Well I have, but I lost every pistol duel because I was always lagging.
Anyway, I said "shooting skill", and by this I mean that in CS you have to be very careful how much you shoot, because of recoil, and inaccuracy of automatic fire.
In renegade, you just point, shoot, and you will hit every time(unless the target is moving)

Yeah Renegade does require aiming to some degree, but if you suck with infantry that's not a problem. Grab a tech and mine or get a tank and you'll do just fine. You're right about CS for sure, if you can't aim, you better be the luckiest person ever
