It's official! Renegade players are now directed to the XWIS service instead of Westwood Online. Just remember that you don't have to do anything different to connect to XWIS. Just select the "Westwood Online" option in your Renegade client and connect as always.

Along with this transition, I am very happy to announce that Blackhand Studios has partnered with Strike Team to support the Renegade XWIS server. As part of this partnership, BHS will be equipped to handle several types of support issues, as well as communicating more effectively with the community through the MOTD seen when players log in.

We are very confident that this transition will turn out to be a great thing for Renegade. We will keep the Renegade Wiki updated with information and answers to your questions as they arise.

In closing, I want to extend a HUGE thanks to the following people who made this all possible: Olaf and DonCarlo at Strike-Team, Apoc and Pete L. at EA, and Scorpio9a who worked with Olaf to get the NAT bug fixed.

Happy gaming!

I'm the bawss.

Fuck yes. I hope to hell we can set up motd's and such now and post some real news for people to see at login, but make it all big and flashy so they break the habit of skipping over it

HUGE PROBELM NOW!
Ok, so I logged on to my trooprm02 account, everything worked fine,(I got a list of servers etc), BUT then I let my bro go on his trooprmJR account, and it said "serial has been marked invalid!"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I switch back, and I'm unable to login on my trooprm02 account!

^READ CAREFULLY
First off, my bro just started playing renegade yesterday (online anyway), and I was there and he didn't cheat! The other thing, My account worked (NOTE: WE HAVE THE SAME SERIAL!), so it is oviusly not a cheating probelm Huh

I really need Blazers or Crimsons help because I'm sure many people have talked to them about a similiar problem. Oh and its not cheating because the guy said some regulars, that means he knows them and they don't cheat! So other people are having the problem, the only question is how to fix it!

Then blazer sia BHS can't help becuase your not affiliated...

WAIT! YES YOU CAN!
Check to see wiether "trooprmJR" logged into renguard 2 days ago from the date of this post!

If you could provide this info to me, that could clear up any issue for XWIS to say that me/my bro were cheating!

The problem where you have to set the server port to zero has returned, presumably they will be implementing the fix they used on the xwis setup we have been using recently ?

*Edit, I forgot to say that I echo Crimsons comments and would also like to thank the Strike team and BHS, I really do think this will be great for the game.

All of us from the Jelly server are very greatful for all the effort everyone concerned has put into this.

I have a question. Now that Xwis is in control of WOL. Is is possible for them to release patches for it, Like the _1037 Patch but a new patch that is downloaded before logging into WOL.

Maybe a patch with several new maps.

Download the maps you want yourself, don't force others to get maps that they won't use.

Side note: When I lodged in to WOL i get a server list with about 30 server, then i use XWIS tool and connect to get about 60 different servers, y is that?

The xwis server listings we have been using over the past week or so are not the game list that have been setup as the WOL replacement by the looks of it, people dont know the swapover is complete and are still using the other server listing.

OK i understand now ty, and I think XWIS needs to page all players and server to tell them about this change and redirect everyone to the new WOL

I'm clearly not forcing people to download maps they dont want or need.

I downloaded most of the maps. Its not that i'm lazy and dont want to download them!. I just thought it might be better that way than all servers could include more maps on there rotation.

This is just an idea i came up with, Not a demand.

Glad to hear this all turned out well. It seemed like a lot of people weren't confident about it at first.

Well I'm still not confident about it. I got 3 names i use on a server deleted by XWIS. Also there are a bunch of people that started threads about deleted nicks and invalid serials on XWIS forum. Once that is fixed for all users, then I'll be more confident about the change.

I am yet to gain confidence, but so long as it runs, and i'm not forced to install any 3rd party software to play, my confidence will rise.

If it happens, you can effectively kiss Renegade goodbye, not enough people use RG to sustain the community.

Forcing people to use a 3rd party program is something which shouldn't be enforcing.

It's like saying; heres my virus, download it or you can't play.

Now I'm not saying RG is full of virii because we all know it isn't, but the fact that forcing people to download something they shouldn't need is unethical.

But hey. Everyone to their own opinion Smile

Wow, why 3 Server list's to pick off again, I thought Olaf said it would be one server list. What's the point of 3 server lists?

Imo I think the Euro public player level is lower then the USA servers, When I was playing on the XWIS before this. Euro and USA people would play toghter in 1 serv..alot better.

Have you actually tried the three different options?

THERE ARE NO PLANS TO REQUIRE RENGUARD USAGE TO LOG INTO XWIS!

Why do you guys do this to yourselves? No one from BHS has ever said we would require it, and yet you guys THINK we're going to do that, then start expressing your opinions about why we shouldn't... when we never said we would in the first place!

I am updating the wiki now. I had jury duty yesterday which took up my entire day. Now I can catch up.
