I can't believe someone tried to portray war again. How unpatriotic can Hollywood get?
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -- Theodore Roosevelt (1918)
"The danger to political dissent is acute where the Government attempts to act under so vague a concept as the power to protect "domestic security." Given the difficulty of defining the domestic security interest, the danger of abuse in acting to protect that interest becomes apparent. --U.S. Supreme Court decision (407 U.S. 297 (1972)

i thought it was pretty cool, but just from an entertainment standpoint. They ripped a ton from full metal jacket (partly because it's the same corps) and a certain amount of surrealism from the likes of Apocalypse Now, though I like the way they changed the atmosphere near the oil wells. They also completely played off on the surplus of anti war crap being thrown all over the place. i'm definitely not saying that the thoughts and ideas of the transposed characters weren't legitimate and respectively truthful, but the whole marketing scheme was to attract that demographic of anti george bush people (i could tell that each young adult's hair on their neck stood up when that character said something about 'George Bush', but meaning senior, during a monologue about the government's motive). don't get me wrong, i don't like the war from a moral standpoint any more than the yuppy standing next to me, but i got respect for those men, and i don't like people tryin to fuck around with me and my position through big buck movies.

And we all know what Nodbugger means when he says accurate!
