I was thinking of starting a Renegade Dedicated Server. I have never hosted a "Dedicated Server" before and I would like to know what things I can do to make it as "lag free" as possible..... such as modifing the packet size, transfer rate, etc. I'm currently using Win 2000, AMD XP 2100 processor, 1GB DDR PC2100 RAM. Would anyone please e-mail me or post a reply so I can begin service.

You need a lot of bandwidth. The minimum you can really run a 32 player server on is a 1 megabit connection upstram and downstream. Your local cable company normally offer 512/128 and ADSL normally 256/512 but it does vary so unless you have acess to a lot of bandwidth then you won't be able to host a high capacity lag-free server. You could probably get away with 8 people on a 256/256 connection or greater. Your system is capable of hosting a server with high SFPS so that wouldn't be a problem.

Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!
Can I host more than 8 players? I have a 1.7GHZ P4 and 512MB of RAM.
