It wasn't so bad before, but now I seem to get msn messenger pop ups all the time. I don't want to spend $25 on a program just to stop it. I was wondering if there was some way to configure to stop these messages?

Goto your Control Panel > Administritive Tools > Services

Highlight the Messenger service and right click and STOP this service. Also right click again and goto its properties and alter the STARTUP TYPE to DISABLED.

I went to control panel... it has the following.
- Appearance and Themes
- Network and Internet Connection
- Add or Remove Programs
- Sounds, Speech, and Audio
- Performance and Maintenance
- Printers and Other Hardware
- Users Accounts
- Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options
- Accessibility Options

The only thing I could think of was to go to Users Accounts. It brings up this:

Pick a task
-Change an account
-Create a new account
-Change the way users log on or off

Or pick an account to change
User User
Computer Administrator Guest account is off

I clicked the user of Computer Administrator... the options says now..

- Change my name
- Create password
- Change my picture
- Change account type
- Change my .NET passport

Can you tell me what I'm supposed to do? Thanks.

Thanks for the startup type tip. I'd done the first part as instructed by a website, but the second part (your tip) will apparently keep me from having to redo that step every time I use my PC. Cool.

Also, for those who don't know, and who have a ton of things opening when they start up, click start, run, type msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and unselect unwanted items.

I always do that so I have nothing running at startup.
