I'd love to play sax but what with me improving my drumming and learning acoustic and electric guitar I don't have the time or the money to do so.

I play the guitar and drums (only for about a year in my free time).

the drummer from dream theatre is pretty fuckin' great, but i like to listen to jazz drumming more, because it's more independant and has a personality. Dream Theatre's amazing, i know, they're all near prodigies, but I don't like that metal kind of drumming (not necessarily dream theatre but you might know what i mean), because it's just fast and full of double/triple bass pedals to a point where it doesn't sound accoustic anymore, it's got no flavor.

Gene Hoglan...of course. I love his current work with Strapping Young Lad as well as what he did with Death as well.

I finally got the new Opeth CD Ghost Reveries, it's so good. Big Grin
Oh, and I've been playing the piano/keyboards for almost 10 years, guitar for about 4 years, and bass around the same.

Yea, try and get your hands on say, Shitstorm from Alien (which is SYL's latest effort), and you'll notice he's still nuts with the double bass.

Also he's in the video for Opeth's The Grand Conjuration, since Lopez is sick and Hoglan is filling in.

Well a friend of mine is a solo guitarist/singer/songwriter.

But the record company (MAS records, founded the one and only Robert Plant) said that they'd sign him if he got a drummer and a bassist.

It's nothing largescale, a few gigs here and there, and a few tracks on a yearly smallscale album. But it's still a record deal and the experience would certainly come in handy.

I've met the guitarist of Robert Plant's new band, but I havn't actually met the man himself.

My boss tells me that Mr. Plant visits the Indian quite often, so soon enough..... Smile

In case I havn't mentioned before, I live about 2 miles from him so that's why he is so involved at college etc.

That's pretty cool, DJM, always helps to have someone close to jumpstart your stuff.

Bands around where I live usually go around with some low quality studio demo's of their bands for a while, but gigs are pretty easy to get if you know people to piggyback with. Every now and then, though, some band hits it big with a crowd and gets pretty popular around the city.
