I'm looking for people who are interested in contributing newbie-content for www.renguard.com, instructions that tells new players how to install Renegade, update 1.037, install renguard, install CP1 etc.

Also, explanations for all the newbie issues we have, like unknown game2.exe (unknown nocd patch, or not updated to 1037) etc.

We noticed that it is kinda difficult for new players to get playing, because there are so many applications/steps you need to do, before you can play the game.

If you are interested, please post here.

How hard is it to download it, read the FAQ and install it?

Apperently, very hard. Most people forget to install 1.037, and renguard's readme actually says that.

That is why we need a step by step instruction manual for newbies.

Could you not just add something to the RG installer that checks for 1.037, and if it's not there have it run the renegade auto-update?

That would be a good idea, but instead of running the auto-update let it link to ftp.westwood.com.

This reminds me of my idea of an everything installer I suggested some time ago. I wish someone could set it up. I have no idea where to start... Huh

Right now, we have no ability to change the installer because 1.04 is not ready for distribution yet, so we have to deal with what we have.

That link sounds a bit like.. but I am talking about a page which is displayed to people before they can dl RG.

That shows them with screenshots, how to install 1.037, how to install renguard, how to get the no cd crack, how to install cp1.. also ,how to deal with the common errors, ie "unknown game2" and stuff like that. We get literally thousands of questions about this stuff.

Very nice!

I think there are many valuable ressources out there. Mac's idea was to bundle them together on one newbie-save web page. I think we could get several 1000 new renegade players that way. Dont underestate the sheer newbie numbers ! The best thing for them would be a "click this button to install everything you need".

What if they before they download RenGaurd, they go to a page at www.RenGaurd.com that says that you have to read this before installing RenGaurd, which could be the tutorial that Zunnie posted.

And for RenGaurd 1.04 before they can install it they need to check a box called ''I have done what is required before you can install RenGaurd correctly'', which shows a step by step discription how to install RenGaurd.

Not everything is as it appears

Last time I tried the auto update it didn't work. Mac I'm not sure I followed you on that one. If it's not ready yet couldn't you just pack patch 1.037 into the install file and if rg doesn't detect it run that first?

I am also thinking of providing an Installer that has
*1.037
*RenGuard
*CP1 included in it.

This would be the download for people that just have renegade installed.

Could you also include this then? It was once posted on here by Kanezor but I kinda copy-pasted it on my website to get morei nfo in one place:

http://goztow-mortov.1-eurohost.com/thekoss/turretview.php

Also if this FAQ gets ready, I'd post it on this site too. Smile
