If it was a good collectible, it could be worth something in a few decades...

As the article said, there will be boxed retail versions, EA will be ditributing them, Valve isn't going to just do Steam, not everyone has (good) broadband and the capability to download several gigs.

Besides, from what I heard from Tooncy, Valve is a privately owned company. EA won't be able to buy all Valve's stock. Gabe and most of his staff would have to give EA permission to takeover Valve.

It's just a publishing deal at the most.

That's true. EA have no say in anything to do with how Valve develope their games or run their company. They're just there to put boxes on shelves.
