whee.. yet another excuse of how constant complaining can get you anything you want in this great country.

And yes, twisting a civil right to sound like it supports your cause doesn't hurt as well.

Yeah, well, Canada's drinking age is 19, but that won't work as an excuse to lower the US legal drinking age.

whoa.

it doesn't matter what the context was, he said "It's Canada, I don't care." It implies he doesn't care about anything that goes on outside of the US. Makes me wonder how people with those views can be such avid supporters of the war in Iraq. Sarcasm

Not importand but just a note, j_ball out drinking age varies by Province, it's 18 where I live. Wink

Legal age is 18 where I am Razz

That aside though, I never said it WOULD be used, as it's a different jurisdiction; so what happens here has no affect there. However, it can be brought up as an argument. Especially if it is successful.

If we Americans actually followed the Constitution instead of just pretending we did, drinking age laws wouldn't be any different. But they are, aren't they?

As for gay marriage, I oppose it. I also oppose an Amendment to ban it. Sounds strange, but it's true.

I just don't see how them getting married affects us in any negative way at all. Even if they're not allowed to get married, they're still going to be together anyway. Might as well let them make the best of it in my opinion.
(...don't try and put a definition on my use of "the best of it," please..)

Might not effect you in anyway. But for us here in the US, it draws a line when you say only a man and woman can be wed. If you let gay marriage, what is stopping a man from getting married to his dog, or an inanimate object. Whats stopping the marraige of several people together, like 2 men and a woman, or two women and a man? You need set rules or people will take advantage of loopholes.

All they need to do is give gay marriage its own word, its own definition and make it the same exact thing as a normal marriage except say it is only between two men or two women.

They need to come up with a new word that isn't marriage and people won't care.

They also need to get two things straight. The government needs to run the civil union part. If two people want a civil union the government shouldn't be able to stop them. But a marriage is with the church. If they church won't do it, thats too bad. Nothing they can do about it.

Gay marriage destroys the moral fabric of our society.

warranto

except for when American lawyers start using this ruling as a precident for what America should do.

Wouldn't be the first time, thanks to the Supreme Court's ruling based on other nations' laws rather than the Constitution (as a matter of fact, I think it was about same-sex marriage).

If I might be so bold, what have gay people ever done to you?

Excerpt from todays Calgary Herald:

The government may scrap the Alberta Marriage Act and simply recognize "civil unions", said Justice minister Ron Stevens. That would force couples - heterosexual and gay - to go to churches and other religious institutions if they want their relationship recognized as marriage.

Other Tory MLA want to take their fight a step further and seek a constitutional amendment to kill the same sex legislation.

Note: In Canada, the Federal government controls the act of marriage, however each province controls how people get married; the administrative part.
