Well, duh.
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -- Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

Great Article, there is a problem with our views of a role model. I used to ask my dad what a role model was when I was younger. At that time there was a big ordeal about a baseball player spitting on an umpire. He pointed at the TV and said: "not him."

j_ball430 wrote on Wed, 15 June 2005 20:46 | Great article. It just makes you think why we put such a high price on these overpaid people who probably had no more talent than you or me to begin with but somehow struck it big. Reading that article makes me embarassed to know that people read these magazines filled with nothing but drivel about the latest hollywood gossip and know every little detail about their favorite stars, but can't even name one division of the armed forces, and probably struggles to remember all the different sectors of the military. It's sad to think that people honestly don't give a fuck about their neighbors who have been fighting for them and who care about them, but devote their time reading such bullshit about people who they will never meet, but seem important because they're put in the public's eye.
|
Then why do you support big tax breaks so the overpaid rich can be even richer?

Sorry, forgot that this was the patriotic thread that passes beyond the realm of actual issues into the land of happy care free troop support rallies. Don't worry, I brought my flags.
Along with my personal favorite, and likely the most fitting:
GO USA! GOD SAVE THE SOLDIERS!
FYI - If it's in the politics forum, it's fair game. So, why do you support tax breaks to make the rich richer?

because many times, the rich pay for the poor, even when the poor is very capable. Its called welfare, and most of it is wasted money. Also, in much of the case the rich had to work VERY hard for their money. Im sure Crimson will agree. So hard in fact, that she pays much more in income tax every year that she earned fairly. Its only fair that she get part of what she worked hard for back wouldnt you say? Rather than going to a bum who sits at home, makes babies and collects a check every week.

Granted, acting in a movie requires a fair amount of talent on the part of the actor, a job of personal sacrifice like being a policeman or fireman is infinitely more demanding. These are the kind of people we should be looking up to, and people like Michael Crook who go out of their way to insult them make my blood boil.

Because the poor suck.
FYI--if politics have little to do with the thread's main topic, it's inappropriate to try to change the topic to a debate; that's like turning a tribute thread to Terry Schiavo into a debate on killing the disabled (something you did). It's completely out of line and inappropriate, not to mention off-topic.
Quit trying to derail the thread into another one of your conservative bash-fests.

But won't help your fellow americans thats in the USA not doing so well in life.
Most poor people got experince in alot of shit, but you need more than just a high school diploma.
Do you know you gotta pay to go to a community college,or have a job just to get financial aide.Poor people with no experince, Can't get a job,not even a mcdonalds job cause experince prefered. Why the hell you need experince to flip a burger?

You don't need experience, thats just their way of telling you they don't want you. And if your not a bum you can make payments on CC very easily, its not expensive at all. On my income I could make that and more and Im 19. I work in a resteraunt. It isnt easy but its a good amount of money for how old I am, and if I can do it, they can too. It took more than 2 apps to get this job, I made out 32 applications in 2 weeks before I got even one job offer. If they want a job badly enough, they can find one. The difference between wanting a job and getting one is that the lazy people will never find one, and even when they do, they fuck it up by not doing shit on the job and getting fired. I know how to do every position at the reseraunt I work at now except for cook(Server, Server Asst., Host, Expo, Food Runner, Salad Maker, Dish Washer, and Even Manager) and ive worked every one because when the boss tells me to do it, I want to keep my job so I say yes sir. If your not willing to do that, then you don't deserve to have money.

Hard mentally, yes... teaching myself skills that got me a great job. And yet like $14k of my $60k earnings (that's 15%) are going towards whatever bullshit the morons in Congress want to spend it on in order to keep their constituents voting for them. (and yes, that's BOTH parties)
I'm the bawss.

You have 15% taken off, here in Belgium I have about 40-50% taken off for the government. I think you don't need to complain...
Then again we do have a whole social security system and tbh: even if it is far from perfect, it does its purpose in some way. I'm not taking opinions, just explaining things .

I meant 25%... and I wouldn't mind it so much if I got that amount of benefit back... instead of it being wasted on bullshit. Heck, I can easily see my $15k paying for refreshments for those stupid steroid hearings.

Yeah, but I'm quite sure that 99% of those kids were because someone thought they could get away with having unprotected sex. Even one of my friends has a kid without a father because of bad decisions, and yes, my tax dollars are helping support her. (Fortunately she is working to improve her life but for each person who is, there are dozens who aren't and will continue to suck off the taxpayers' teats until the day they die)
There are always exceptions to the rule, but thanks to public assistance it's becoming less and less necessary to have the finanicial means to raise a child without a father. Unfortunately those children, without a male role model, can turn into losers themselves. And yet this is supposed to be a good thing.
Want to find out? Just find one of these people and ask them what they'd do if the assistance wasn't available.
I'm the bawss.
