With that budget in Canadian I would look for an ATi 9600XT, they have great performance/price ratio. Your pocket won't feel completely lonely after your purchase either.

eBay, huh? Don't buy anything that's sold as is. They're broken 99% of the time.

256MB isn't better than 128MB, 128MB apparently has better quality memory. Quality over quantity my friend.

I just bought myself an ATI All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro (128 MB version) and I've had nothing but trouble with it. ATI's customer service has been pretty poor as well. They insist it is a driver error, however, I have reformatted my entire system and re-installed the drivers by their step by step procedures, all without any solutions...

The problem is that the card does not perform nearly to what a card of it's calibre should be, my brothers 9600 runs way better than my 9800 does. That and the TV tuner crashes randomly, without any error codes...

I would SERIOUSLY suggest you try and find a cheap or even used Nvidia 6800 card, I don't know how much they are, but ATI cards might out preform them but they simply are nowhere as stable most of the time. I used to have a 9800 XT that suffered constant VPU crashes and a friend has a 9800 that does it, also I used to have a 9600 that clashed with TWO different motherboards that said they supported ATI technology. =/

Guys stop giving him links to Newegg. If his budget is Canadian that means Newegg is a source he cannot use, they don't ship to Canada.

Searching Ebay is another good place to look. I have a friend who has bought lots of hardware off of Ebay and had no problems to date with any of the products he purchased.

Having 256 MB of VRAM is not really advatageous for AGP. I recommended the 9600 XT for it's price, performance and quality. It's 128 MB of VRAM will be quite satifactory. I have another question though, what games do you currently play and what games do you plan on playing in the future.

Don't blame ATI for some shitty motherboard you bought. I've had no problems whatsoever with my 128MB X300 SE.

One of them was an ASUS and another one was a Gigabyte, both were supposed to be able to support ATI 9600's, but the ATI card just didn't want to, constantly giving off odd errors. Even ATI tech support admitted that it seems like a problem with the card itself.

So what was my 9600? A defective card, joy. I haven't had any problems with Nvidia.

But...since YOU said I got myself a shitty motherboard, you must be right and I must wrong! *gasp*

Well, you could try giving people all the facts in your first post. How was I supposed to know that it was the CARD the caused the problems? GASP!

Yeah, maybe I should have...but since this was about CARDS to start with, I thought you could figure out that for yourself.

Oh and how the HELL does your x300 not having any problems compare to a 9600 HAVING problems? I don't see the CONNECTION between the two cards, except for the little ATI label, that's about it.

And I'm with Icedog on this one, get a 6800 series on, I have a 6800 ultra and it works like a dream.
