Was seeing if anyone could possibly help me with my fps issue.I've had this fps issue since I've had my new vid card(Radeon 9600 256mb),and I had a fx5700ultra before which gave me no problems at all.The problem I get now with this video card is I will get a normal like 60ish fps but at time I will get fps lag spikes that go as low as 5.I tend to snipe alot and turning a corner getting 5 fps and getting owned is getting owned,so if anyone can help me with my problem I'd be rather thankful o.O?

You should always include if you updated your video and sound card drivers because they're the most common problem (yes your sound card matters in this particular problem too, so make sure you have the latest driver for it).

is the problem with only renegade or other games?

Yea mostly for renegade sometimes with others, but almost not at all.So you could say it was for ren,and I have updated my ati drivers,as well tried omega drivers. Also I've always had the same sound card even with my old video card.Either way I think the sound card drivers are updated anyways I'll check later.

Supi Blaze!!! Long time no hear/see. I will tell you I bought pretty much the same card and had the same problems. Needless to say I returned it and went back to GeForce and got a FX5700 which cooks. I found out ATI did not sit well with the chipset of my motherboard. Good luck and again good seeing you still around old buddie. Cool

I have 512 and I've only had this problem since I've got this card, also I've tried reinstalled the latest direct x.

Ok I confirmed it...this happens with other games, not just renegade. If anyone can help me on what might cause it that'd be nice.If I solve this I'll let anyone else know who may have the problem.

Check your mobo like Wyldone said. Apart from that, check to see if your old video card is fully uninstalled. (Leave no traces of old drivers behind.)

And also, make sure to disable vertical sync in case you forgot to already.

Do you have on board sound or a sound card? I have been having the same problem with my 9700 pro using the on board sound. I decided that I would try team speak. So, I installed my Sound Blaster Live economy card and yada yada yada . Long story short my fps at the idle was the same as my monitor refresh rate. Now with the sound card installed and my refresh rate at 85 hertz the fps at idle is anywhere from 500 - 600. In game fps, I have seen over 100. It does drop as low as 9 when I first join a game but then jumps up to 60 or so. Hope this helps, I know what it is like to play at 0 fps. IT SUCKS
