Just cause they are new doesn't mean they are good/beter... I learned the hard way that my current drivers(61.76) are the best for my card, I tried over 10 drivers and ran a Benchmark after each, the best scores i go was with 61.76. I think anyone updating vid drivers should do a benchmark b4 and after and see what gives them a better score

I want to try the Omega drivers, I've heard they're better. Right now they don't support versions 70.xx and up, but soon they will and then I'll try them.

I found out the hard way too. I tried updating my ATI Radeon X300 SE drivers (6.14.0010.6444) and it fucked something up badly. I had to do a system restore.

You're lucky, my parents were cheap when it came to hardware.

No. Seriously. No.

All new Ati Catalyst drivers caused slowing, ping increasing in my CS:S dust 2 for example. I am very disappointment to all new drivers. My graphic card is Radeon 9600 xt, but I have heard that CS:S runs not so well with other Ati cards also. And Ati says that Radeon cards run Hl 2 and CS:S better than Nvidia cards. I doubt it.

Your facts are correct. ATI cards do run better on HL2 & CS:S. The new drivers just suck, I would stay with the default ones.

That is because they used ATI cards to design the source engine and it's games.

They take the current drivers and tweak them. A lot of small features that NVidia doesnt have. Beware though that if you install these drivers NVidia will not help you in any way because you installed a modified driver. In my opinion there much better than the standard one. They have 71.84 out right now but I imagine the .89 will soon be available. Also they are working on modifications for the Catalyste drivers but they havnt released one yet do to time constriants!

Just because it has an X in front of it doesn't mean it's good. X300 SE is still the very bottom of the line in ATI's latest generation.

And I really doubt that video card drivers have much to do with anyone's ping.

If you're talking about sticking with Windows default drivers, then that is not a good idea. When I install the latest drivers over the default ones, I get around a 30 FPS increase and no more artifacts.

I was talking about the drivers that come with the card. I'm just sticking with those because I had a bad history with updating the drivers.

That I also meant. Upgrading from those drivers or the Windows default drivers is a huge increase in FPS overall.

I get over 120 FPS in CS:S with a 9600XT I think the omega drivers own.
